As fall and winter roll around, sporting activities will kick into high gear. Safe Kids Grand Forks offers these sports safety tips to keep your athlete in the game.

Tip #1: Safety gear is important. Make sure that all equipment is in good condition and fits the athlete correctly. Check this extra carefully if it has been provided to the athlete by the team. Tip #2: Know the signs and symptoms of dehydration. An athlete can overheat in the winter time too, not just in summer heat. Tip #3: Make sure athletes stay well hydrated, drinking plenty of water before, during and after play. Establish water breaks every 15-20 minutes throughout practices and games. For more info on sports safety, contact Safe Kids Grand Forks at safekids@altru.org or call 701.780.1489. Altru Health System is proud to serve as the lead agency for Safe Kids Grand Forks.
