FORESTRY DEPARTMENT The GF Park District Forestry Department has had jurisdiction over the planting & maintenance of all berm trees in the city of Grand Forks since 1917. Forestry maintains over 36,000 berm trees and 8,000 park trees, including 24 different tree species. Horticulture crew plants 35,000 flower each spring.

Emerald Ash Bore

Forestry is responsible for removing old, hazardous and diseased berm trees. Forestry offers consulting services to homeowners regarding care of trees & shrubs located on private property.

Pet owner responsibility does not end inside the fence. Owners are legally responsible for their dogs and any injuries caused by them. www.gfparks.org/dogpark.htm

Forestry responds to over 800 calls a year from homeowners requesting a wide range of treatments to be administered to berm trees.

We provide the general public with education and training for any dog Agility, Conformation, Obedience, Rally, Canine Good Citizen, and Puppy classes. New classes start every other month. Check us out at www.grandforkskennelclub.org During summer months, come watch us at Exchange Club Park.

Dutch Elm Disease The first case of Dutch Elm Disease in Grand Forks was in 1979. At that time there were 11,800 elms in Grand Forks. Today, due to the efforts of our Dutch Elm Disease Program, 70% of those elms still remain.

Attention Dog Park Users!

GRAND FORKS KENNEL CLUB

TREE CARE

Grand Forks is the longest running Tree City USA in ND & celebrates an annual Arbor Day event.

The emerald ash bore (EAB), is a wood-boring beetle discovered in Southeast Michigan in 2002. EAB is native to eastern Asia, and it is believed that the beetle was unintentionally brought to US in infested ash crates or pallets. For more information regarding tree care and what you can do to prevent Emerald Ash Bore in your city, visit the Forestry page on gfparks.org

Building Fields of Dreams: SCHEELS ’ SPORTS COMPLEX

CAMPAIGN FOR A NEW BASEBALL / SOFTBALL COMPLEX Through the efforts of families with players, fans who enjoy the sport, community advocates of youth sports and with the assistance of the Grand Forks Park District, a new ball complex will be built along South 20th Street between 42nd and 45th Avenue South. Through community philanthropy, the Grand Forks Park District and the Forks Area Youth Baseball/ Softball Association will construct a multi-diamond complex. Not only will this greatly alleviate chaos between games, create additional fields for practice, and financially impact Greater Grand Forks during tournament play, but it will also demonstrate our investment in girls’ fastpitch softball and boys’ baseball as an integral part of our community and region. It is time to meet the growing demands of these sports! From the generous donations of Scheel’s Sports, local organizations and compassionate individuals, we are able to construct 2 fields this summer! Help us build all 5 fields by learning more about the project at gfparksfoundation.org.

Because of your donations, we were able to sponsor over 400 Grand Forks kids that could not afford to join an activity in 2014. Let’s help all our local children stay active this summer by donating to the Grand Forks Parks & Rec Foundation! With your donations, we can continue to provide a nurturing environment of activities to all children in our community. 100% of your donation goes to scholarships for qualifying children.
