HISTORIC AND MEMORIAL

CADILLAC MOUNTAIN SUMMIT ACCESSIBLE TRAIL, ACADIA NATIONAL PARK MOUNT DESERT ISLAND, MAINE Acadia National Park contract to plan and design for accesible upgrades to historic Cadillac Mountain Summit Trail. Defined accessible route from the parking area to a primary summit viewing platform. Project challenges included design of an alignment that minimized disturbance to existing vegetation and ledge outcrops while finding materials that closely match the colors and textures of the existing historic features. Originally developed in the 1930’s and as the most visited site in the park, construction on Cadillac Summit required creative sensitivity to the culturally historic nature and high visibility of the site. Conducted client coordination and produced construction documents and visual simulations of proposed accessible trail.
