Mission ConneXion Northwest Sweeps the World with the Good News
A
s we enter the 11th year of Mission ConneXion (and the 10th annual Mission ConneXion Northwest event), we want to celebrate this milestone with a new look—a new logo! This new logo encompasses our Spirit-led desire to plant similar Mission ConneXion events throughout the country. Already, the Lord has helped us establish deep relationships, and in some cases, strategic partnerships in Alaska and Washington. The blue wave in our new logo conveys our desire for movement—sweeping the world with
the Good News of Jesus Christ! We did keep the unique spelling of ConneXion because the “X” in ConneXion symbolizes the Greek character "Chi," for Christ. Also, in cross-cultural efforts, the Lord often reveals “short-cuts” that allow the Gospel to advance more spontaneously and rapidly with innovation, where one aspect can replace what had previously been accomplished with two! Mission ConneXion Northwest is the largest Christian event of its kind in the Northwest. Over the course of two days, we connect local churches and individuals to mission so that
increasing numbers of believers are actively serving in areas of the world’s greatest need and opportunity: 70 mission agencies set up exhibits providing information about work being done in countries around the world; four keynote addresses are given by world class speakers; and 125 workshops given on a wide variety of topics ranging from visionary to practical. We welcome you to Mission ConneXion Northwest. And we pray that it will be used as a conduit of inspiration in your life.

vision: God’s people effectively mobilized in mission
Your Passion…God’s Purpose…Your Call Mission ConneXion Northwest 2012
T
en years ago this weekend, a church mission mobilizing effort was launched where Jesus Christ was to be at the center of a new generation of workers raised-up with His heart to reach those least served by the Gospel. Since then, over 25,000 have received training through Mission ConneXion Northwest’s workshops and over 200 mission organizations have helped mobilize hundreds into short and long-term missions; including those responding to natural disasters in Indonesia and Haiti. In addition, Mission ConneXion has been instrumental in assisting in the launch of similar events in Seattle, Spokane, and Fairbanks, Alaska; while continuing to strengthen local church mission effectiveness through Leadership ConneXion and Care ConneXion. Passion usually accompanies vision, and, in our case it has always been to see “God’s people effectively mobilized in mission"; Purpose to “connect local churches and individuals to mission, so that increasing numbers of believers are actively serving in areas of the world’s greatest need and opportunity.” This is the Call that those involved in this all-volunteer, faith venture devote themselves to. We give Jesus Christ all the kudos for giving us this outlet to serve Him in this way! Mission ConneXion Northwest 2012 offers 125 workshops; over 70 missionary exhibitors, and draws plenary speakers from a variety of backgrounds and compass points to give us opportunity to hear from those who have followed God in pursuit of their passion to discover His purpose and calling. Our desire is that you, and every participant in this year’s event, will discover and pursue your passion, God’s divine purpose, and joyfully obey the calling He has for your life, so that you may say with the Psalmist: “I cry out to God who will fulfill His purpose for me.” (Psalm 57:2) Bill MacLeod Founder/Executive Director Mission ConneXion

Fouad Masri
Shortly after arriving in China in 1987 to study Mandarin China at Xiamen University, Job learned about a new policy allowing foreigners to set up wholly owned Foreign Invested Enterprises. In March of 1988, Meixia International was born. Meixia produces Tiffany and fine glass for export. Job’s vision is to transform people and communities through profitable business. With the core conviction that eternal things are more important than temporal things, hundreds of Meixia’s employees have become believers in Jesus Christ; churches have been planted and compassionate ministries have started, including a program to hire disabled. Meixia International has won awards for excellence. Job will describe his philosophy of using business to achieve mission objectives. Job is married and has four children.
Operating since 1974, Grace International was founded by Bishop Joel and wife Doris Jeune, who together oversee and lead the organization. For the past 30 years, Grace International has been impacting lives through the oversight and management of 270 churches, 65 schools, 3 orphanages, a medical clinic, a hospital, and a home for elderly widows. Within these programs and facilities, Grace International also operates a feeding program, various learning centers, as well as seasonal and annual conferences. The base of the organization’s work is Grace Village, located in the county of Carrefour. Bishop Jeune will help us see what God has been doing in Haiti, even before the earthquake, and why Haiti is in the midst of revival on every level today, especially because of their “brokenness.”
Author and lecturer Fouad Masri was born and raised in the war zone of Beirut, Lebanon. As a third generation pastor, he has a passion for sharing the love of Christ with Muslims and has spent most of his life doing just that. In 1993, he founded Crescent Project to nurture transformational relationships between Christians and Muslims and overcome misconceptions about Islam and Christianity. "Our job is not to make the Muslim a Christian," Fouad often reminds his audience. "Our job is to show them the love of Christ." Fouad is author of "Is the Injeel Corrupted?" and holds a bachelor's degree in Mass Communication and an M.A. from Fuller Theological Seminary in Islamic Studies. Fouad lives in Indianapolis, Ind., with his wife Lisa and their two children.

This is What We’re all About! By Nikki Raichart
I
n January of 2011, my husband Tad and I attended Mission ConneXion Northwest. We were excited to go and hear how God is working all over the globe. It’s not uncommon for us to go; I think this was our third or fourth time. Though this time, Tad was battling a sinus infection and was having a hard time focusing. That is, until right after lunch. The first plenary speaker, Danial Oh, challenged us so much so that we were moved to attend a workshop on how to raise funds for full-time missions. “Why in the world would we do this?” we asked ourselves. We had no intention of support-raising in the near future; after all we have five children, including foster kids. In the meantime, Tad and I perused the Exhibitor Hall. It’s a huge area, and we made two rounds without feeling led to any particular booth. After lunch, I asked Tad if we could look just once more. “Why in the world we would walk around a third time?” I wondered. I had no idea, and why Tad said “yes,” I have no idea either! But, we did. And that was just the beginning. I saw a booth called Africa Harvest of Hope and said, “Hey honey, how about this one? It says Africa in the

title (we’ve had Africa on our hearts for a few years); how about you go ask them what they are about?” So Tad asked the exhibitor, Patrick, “Tell me about your ministry.” As Patrick spoke, we fell in love with what they were doing in Tanzania! He told us that they were praying for a family that could live in Tanzania and help develop the 90 acres they were just given by the government, and to help oversee the orphanage where they had 30 children currently living. We both looked at each other and knew that we fit that bill. It was like for the
last three years, God had been preparing us to do exactly this! Orphans. Building. Developing. Sharing Jesus with people. This is what we are all about! And so our connection at Missions ConneXion began! Fast forward six months to June 2011, and Tad and I find ourselves flying across the world to Tanzania. It was a whirlwind of getting the right immunizations,
updating passports, sending out support/prayer letters, flying to California to meet the founders of Africa Harvest of Hope, and figuring out the details of where our five children were going to stay while we were gone for two weeks! We had an amazing time working in the rural town

Korogwe. We ministered alongside a local pastor at the Africa Harvest of Hope orphanage, spent time visiting with widows in mud huts, and helped build the orphanage a chicken coop. We honestly don’t know what the Lord has in store for us and where He will lead. But we do know that we are grateful to Mission ConneXion for being a catalyst in our journey. We encourage you to look around, and take advantage of the exhibitors, as they have inspiring stories to share; and take lots of notes in the plenary sessions— because you never can tell, where God is preparing you to go.

Learn How to Care for Your Missionaries
I
f helping to meet the needs of missionaries is important to you, then you will want to attend the Northwest’s only conference on missionary care—Care ConneXion. Today’s world offers unprecedented opportunities for followers of Christ to share the Good News of the Gospel. Every week, individuals and families are steppingout in obedience— leaving the comforts of home for ministry assignments around the world. Providing financial and logistical support to these faithful servants is important, but even more so is an intentional and strategic ministry of encouragement, pastoral and emotional care. Effective support in these areaGs can help ensure our missionaries thrive in their ministries and leave their mission fulfilled, instead of burned-out and empty. The high attrition rate among mid and long-term missionaries is often linked to a lack of spiritual and emotional vitality. One worker recently back from a midterm assignment in North Africa shares, “Rejected visas and harsh environments are not the only things that can hinder the advance of the Gospel in restrictive access areas. Unmet pastoral care to missionaries
is one of the most critical issues regarding longevity and effectiveness of missions.” One unique aspect of Care ConneXion is an intentional focus on the four quadrants of missionary care: the church, the agency, the counselors, and the educational institutions that help train and prepare the missionary. A worker in Africa said, “Comprehensive care for missionaries should be an item of priority for churches, agencies, counselors and schools as we continue to send workers to work in difficult places to further advance the kingdom.” Your missionaries are doing their best to share the Good News and care for “the least of these” around the world. Are you doing your best to care for them? Join us for Care ConneXion March 16 and 17, 2012, and find out more about how you can be an effective partner in missionary care. The 2012 Care ConneXion theme is Soul Care: The DNA of Missionary Vitality. This two-day conference will be held at Village Baptist Church in Beaverton. The Power of Orality is Communicating God's Work in Story Form Leadership ConneXion
S
tory Telling is the theme of this year's Leadership ConneXion, which takes place on Friday, January 20 from 9 to 4 p.m. at Crossroads Community Church, Vancouver, Wash. This seminar provides training in the art of orality—which refers to the reliance upon the spoken, rather written word for communication. Orality is crucial in today's mission field as: • Over 4 billion people in the world do not read as their primary method of learning. • Oral preference cultures and individuals learn in context by oral/visual means. • The vast majority of Christian work both
locally and globally has been done using a literate means. • Oral cultures are very relational—they share their lives with one another. • Most oral cultures communicate with one another through stories, pictures and music. • Even in cultures that can read and write, there is a strong preference to learn by oral/relational means. Leadership ConneXion is designed for church mission leaders, mission teams, and pastors to help their church grow in mission effectiveness. For more information, you may email Leadership ConneXion at lc@missionconnexion.com. To register for this Friday, January 20 event, visit www.MissionConneXion.com.

Brad Buser
Libby Little
Brad Buser served for 20 years in Papua New Guinea, with his wife and his children, working among the Iteri people. He was involved in church planting, translation, church planting consulting and language checking. He also served in leadership and at the boarding school for missionary children. Brad enjoys talking to any group about missions, as well as his work among the Iteri people. Speaking to teens about world evangelization has been especially effective for Brad, due to his obvious excitement for missions! Brad is a National Representative for New Tribes Mission and currently resides San Diego, Calif.
Libby Little lived most of her adult life in Afghanistan. For over 30 years, she worked with her late husband, Tom Little, to improve the lives of the Afghan people, especially their eyesight. They helped establish and grow the Noor Eye Hospital in Kabul and related ministries elsewhere in the country. Libby also served as an English teacher and in leadership roles for the expatriate community in Afghanistan. Raising their children in Afghanistan, Libby and Tom persevered through several regime changes, and lived in a difficult place out of love for God and His people. Throughout her time there, Libby experienced God’s grace at work in Afghanistan, and her story now includes the sad task of serving without Tom, who was murdered there in 2010.
