Division 70

Division 70’s Struggles

How Can We Fix This?

In recent years, Division 70 has not been reaching its full potential. It has had struggles with Lieutenant Governors, connection, suspension and inactivity, and unproductivity. There is no clear cut answer as to why it has been this way and no one is at fault for these struggles.

Thankfully, there is a way to fix and change all of that! Communication. A lack of communication is often the problem. Communication is KEY in order to achieve success. I will try my hardest during my term to communicate with ALL of you and I ask from all of you that you would do the same!

Division 70

Big Changes Coming Each of our clubs are in their own place right now. But no matter what, they are not connected with the District. I will work to be an active liaison between Division 70 and the District throughout my term. You will see great changes within your club.

Facts About Division 70 - Our Colors: Blue and Grey - Mascot: Elephant - Schools: South Salem High School, Silverton High School, North Marion High School, Stayton High School (Suspended), and Woodburn High School (Inactive). - Lt. Governors: Immediate-Past: Leo Gomez Current: Jimin Lee

2014-2015 Goals for Division 70

Goals for 2014-2015 • Communication: Better communication would be one of the most important goals for 2014-2015 as we as a Division must stay connected. Along with that, we must stay connected with the PNW District. • Friendship: As silly as this may sound for a goal for 20142015, it goes hand in hand with communication! Not only do we need to stay connected but we also need to grow closer together as a Division! In Key Club you’ll make friendships that will last a lifetime! • Increased Membership: This is always a good goal to have as the more members there are, the better! • Increased DCON Attendance: Along with increased membership, let’s try to get more of Division 70 at DCON 2015! We had 7 members this year, let’s aim to at least triple that number for the next DCON! • More Service: Throughout this next year, we should try to serve the community as much as possible! Every year, we should increase the amount of service and impact made in our communities!

DISTRICT SECRETARY “Hi, everyone. My name’s Ik Hoon Jung from Southridge High School in Beaverton, OR (Div. 65), and I’m excited beyond words to serve as your District Secretary. I’ve been an enthusiastic member of Key Club since freshman year, and it is truly a dream come true to be in this great position. DISTRICT GOVERNOR “Dear Pacific Northwest District, The ending of District Convention is always hard, but it also marks the beginning of another Key Club year, and another year of service. If you have not already met me, I am Lisa Antonio, and I am honored to have the chance to serve as your District Governor for the next year. I am privileged to be leading such a diverse and enthusiastic district, and I am excited to start building upon our strengths and creating new solutions for our district’s weaknesses. In this upcoming year I want to focus on clubs and members. I want to make sure clubs are thriving and increasing not only membership, but active membership. I want each club member to know the District Board is there to serve the members. I am inspired by the love an passion each one of you has for the act of service, Keep up the amazing work, and remember that every single minute you spend serving the community is changing the world around you in a positive way. Remember to always keep service in your heart, and no matter what is going on in life, if you are serving, you can always find love. Keep in mind that in hard times, you always have your Key Club family to lean back on, and depend on. Know that the things you have done in Key Club, and the people’s lives you have touched along the way will never be forgotten. Once again I am so grateful to have the chance to serve all of you. The Eliminate Project

“With The Eliminate Project, Kiwanis International and UNICEF have joined forces to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus. Neonatal tetanus kills one baby every nine minutes––nearly 60,000 newborn children every year. A significant number of women also die due to maternal tetanus. The effects of the disease are excruciating––tiny newborns suffer repeated, painful convulsions and extreme sensitivity to light and touch.” “To eliminate MNT from the Earth, 129 million mothers and their babies must be immunized. This requires vaccines, syringes, safe storage, transportation, thousands of skilled staff and more. It will take $110 Million––and the dedicated work of UNICEF and every member of the Kiwanis family.” “Kiwanis and UNICEF joined forces to tackle iodine deficiency disorders, achieving one of the most significant public health successes of the 20th century. Now, together they are eliminating MNT from the face of the Earth. In doing so, the project will reach the poorest, most neglected mothers and babies with additional lifesaving health care. The end of this one disease means the beginning of better health for so many families.”

Farewell to/from Leo Gomez

Farewell from Leo Gomez: Hello Division 70! What an insane year it has been for us all. First off I'd like to take a minute to recognize your Lieutenant Governor, Jimin Lee, he is truly a great person. I'd like every single one of you to take a minute and thank him for stepping up when no one else wanted too and deciding to better our division. For the short time I have known Jimin, he has proven himself a true leader and I know he will strive to make Division 70 better than it has ever been. This entire year has been a crazy one with all the switching and all the confusion about who the Lieutenant Governor was and I'd like to apologize and thank everyone for their cooperation with me during the time I took over. Ever since I was appointed Lieutenant Governor of Division 70 in September all I wanted to do was help this division out and I am sorry for not being able to do more but I know Division 70 is now in extremely good hands! Now I'd like to say it was a pleasure serving you as your 2013-2014 Lieutenant Governor and I’m proud to have had the extra experience. Thank you so much for letting me serve you and now I wish you all good luck during the 2014-2015 school year! Congrats Jimin, and congrats Division 70 for having an incredible Lieutenant Governor!

Farewell to Leo Gomez: The only way that I can think of how to start, is by saying congratulations on an amazing year. You’re truly an inspiration. Not only were you an outstanding Lt. Governor, you were an outstanding Lt. Governor of TWO divisions. You have served Division 70 well! Leo, months ago you were a stranger to me, and now it’s so weird to be saying farewell to an amazing friend. Within that time, we became friends, and our bond just grew so close. There is always constantly one thing that I feel whenever I think of you. Every time I think of you, I feel thankful. You have just blessed me with so much. A great friendship, the position of Lieutenant Governor, and lastly the other amazing friendships I have made through Key Club. Without you, my life simply wouldn’t be as great. You are such a kind, patient, and wise person, and again, I am so thankful for that. You are my true inspiration to try to be a great Lieutenant Governor and to bring Division 70 into the light. I’m so blessed to have ever gotten the chance to meet you. You are the best outtie an innie could wish for, thank you.
