Jim Killon

Recipient of the David Chow Humanitarian Award As we launch into the depths of 2019, we see that people are already asking what can be done to reach the less fortunate. That is deeply heartening. In Peru, many thousands of Venezuelan refugees are pouring across the border. Many are without a place to stay, food or resources, they are just happy to be out of a country that was collapsing around them. I see many Peruvians, with minimal resources of their own, reaching out to share what they have with those who have nothing. I try to make a point not to shame people into caring because I don't believe it is correct nor even possible. I am moved however to see people in their own destitution and impoverishment sharing with refugees so they didn't starve. That was enough to motivate me to write a few words here. It will either touch your heart or it won't. That isn't the point. The fact that there are beautiful people in the world who do what needs to be done without excuses, without consideration for their own tomorrows, contrasts so vividly with where I came from back in a world that seems to embrace the "I got mine" mentality. To what end? Why is sharing such a dramatic event? Have we lost our moral compass and sense of humanity? I hope this year we can find something, somewhere, wherever you care to reach out, to make this world a beautiful place. I do everything I can and I find that there is so much more I can do with just a little creativity. I am overjoyed to know that I am not alone. I hope you will read this month's issue and feel the same way, we are all in this life together. We are going to make it, we are going to help as many others make it too. Live large my friends, live deliberately.

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

I read you article , "The Crossfire Between My heart and My Head" and admire your ability to take defeat and disappointment and turn it into a future victory for the benefit of the kids you work with. Inspiring!

Your new e-book Silver Linings, Words of love, encouragement and living limitless is my new go-to reference when I need motivation and encouragement. Thank you so much! ~~~ Gina L.

Dear Editor,

Dear Editor,

In your Final Thought last month, you mentioned that our lives are filled with time wasted and we really have no idea where we will be in five years. I say most have no clue where they will be in five days. Good point.

In your article, "Don't Be Boring." I was surprised that 785 million people live in hunger. In developed nations we waste so much food and materials. I believe that if we used just what we needed maybe we could lean toward a positive change.

What we ar e accomplishing wit h t his magazine?

1. To recognize humanitarians and like minded individuals for their selfless work in the field. 2. To raise awareness for their projects by sharing their stories and projects with the world. Hopefully this will encourage fund raising efforts and support. 3. To draw corporate sponsorship to our program for mutual benefit. Corporate PR can be enhanced by their association. Funding will support the projects throughout the world that meet criteria we believe is critical. 4. To develop an alliance among individuals to share ideas, challenges, "how to" support and stories of progress. To be there for each other in good times and bad. We are no longer alone. 5. To provide independent credibility to individuals leading projects for their further development. 6. To give you a platform and a forum for your ideas and thoughts. What you have learned, you can share. 7. To provide transparency for NGOs so that donors and sponsors understand that each partner is fully vetted and contribution can be sent with confidence. 8. To melt the indifference and apathy in the world that enables suffering in 3rd world countries to continue. 9. To present nominated NGO leaders with a humanitarian award for their selfless service toward the disadvantaged, under-served and destitute. 10. To ultimately alleviate the desperation, the destitution and suffering that countless thousands endure which we encounter each day and restore human

ASECOND HANDLIFE The Second Hand Lif e We see it everyday, don't we? People want to be like their heroes. What are the stars wearing? Driving? What makes them "cool" will make us cool too, right? We see the boss at work and however he got there, well, I can get there the same way too, right? The problem is that it never works out like it does in the movies. That is a script, rehearsed and edited af ter months of post production to get it perfect. Why do we live vicariously through the successes of others and not create our own victories in life? Why do people want to live a second hand life? Why envy others for what appears to be a polished life when we are all born to be unique and special as a individual as we are and where we are. Your best imitation of anyone will always be, only an imitation.

Be the hero to your kids and those around you. Create the environment that you want to live in.

Bef ore Long..... You'l l Bel ong.... You want to know why?

Once we realize that our human DNA is pulling us to be more, do more and live more than a life of a Neanderthal going out hunting and gathering for those in our own cave and protecting them. Has nothing changed in a million years except that we traded a cave for a condo? Our civilized selves have created a network where we are only complete when we reach out to interact with others. We have books within us, artwork that we are dying to paint and share, music still inside of us, as yet unheard, we want to leave something behind that made our human experience here mean something to those who remain long after we are gone. Where are you now and what would you like to share with the world? We are waiting!

Doing Good Feels Great

Did you know? ...... Those "Feel Good" chemicals, dopamine, endorphins and oxytocin are released into our bloodstreams when we engage in selfless and altruistic acts.

Gr at it u de Our thanks goes out to the people who have supported our project whose hearts were bigger than their excuses. and it made all the difference. Hundreds of shoes have been donated by a local shoe store. Andrea sends us a couple of boxes of clothes every month for years now. The family below came in from Utah and brought seven suitcases full of materials for the children. Luigi opened his pizza shop for a party for our kids whose families never had the opportunity to do that for them. The Russian Ice circus gave us free passes to their show, a treat they kids had never seen before.

Ted Alexander of Trivio served a dinner for dozens of children. Pam Cavallo donated a Neuromat which is helping special needs children develop beyond their limitations. Mary in Lima has sent many boxes of books to us over the years. Vitamin Angels has provided us with enough vitamin A for 5000 children. There are others who have stepped up. People who jettison the reasons why they "can't" support the disadvantaged in the world. They have provided funding, material support and expertise in their fields to make this slice of the world a better place. We can all be heroes. changesfornewhope.com

The Fin al Tho ught

If you promise to do it, do it. If you love, show it. If you need to make a change, change it. Don't hesitate until your excuses try to fill in the blanks. Make the change. If they are toxic to you, jettison them. If you have it, share it. If you doubt it, learn more about it. If you encounter obstacles, climb over them. Actions seem to be the magic pill that quells fears, better lives, changes futures and proves love. It is still a beautiful world.
