The Nicklaus Impact
A Global Case Study: South Africa
•
The first four Nicklaus courses opened in South Africa—all since 1998—have earned the prestigious honor of Golf Digest’s Best New Course in South Africa, including 2007 winner St. Francis Links.
•
Pearl Valley, the second Nicklaus course to open in South Africa (2003), is now the most expensive Golf Estate in South Africa, per square foot of land.
•
At Simola (opened in 2005) in Knysna, developers sold 80% of inventory within six months after it was launched. Other communities within a 100-kilometer radius have not achieved this level of sell-through even two or three years after launching.
The Nicklaus Impact
A Global Case Study: South Africa •
At St. Francis Links (2006) on the Southeast Cape, the project is 95% sold out. St. Francis first launched without the Nicklaus name and the Nicklaus Signature Course was added after the sales launch. On average, sales of property after the Nicklaus brand was added were 85% higher than property sold without the Nicklaus brand.
•
South Africa is currently in a significant property downturn, yet the two most successful residential projects in the country have been communities with a Nicklaus course as its centerpiece: 1. Serengeti in Johannesburg has enjoyed 100-percent sell-through on all four phases launched since May 2006. The first phase sold out in 2 hours, and each subsequent phase has sold out in a weekend. The average selling price has increased by about 30% in 18 months. 2. Jubilee Lakes in St. Jeffreys Bay has sold almost 90 percent of the 688 properties offered to the market—only one month after the launch of its sales’ campaign.

Nicklaus Design Golf Course Nears Completion at Ocean Edge Multi-Million Dollar Project Includes Course, Clubhouse and More Brewster, MA - February 20, 2007 - Ocean Edge Resort & Club on Cape Cod is in the homestretch of a $6 million Nicklaus Design renovation to its 18-hole golf course. The back nine holes will be unveiled Memorial Day weekend, with the course in its entirety slated to debut October 2007. The total redesign of Ocean Edge has remodeled and reshaped all greens and holes, with the most significant changes being increased length, better playability and more challenges on the course. The greens are being customized to United States Golf Association specifications. To accommodate member and guest play during the renovation, the par-72 golf course is being carefully redesigned in two phases. The total redesign of Ocean Edge has remodeled and reshaped all greens and holes, with the most significant changes being increased length, better playability and more challenges on the course. "We are becoming a more challenging course for our members, but Ocean Edge will still be fun and enjoyable for resort guests," said Michael Medeiros, head golf professional at Ocean Edge Resort & Club on Cape Cod. "The new golf course is strategically accurate for all levels of play." Gearing up to unveil its newly designed golf course, Ocean Edge will also transition from semi-private to a private course, exclusively available to club members and hotel guests. Nicklaus Signature Course adds Distinction to Residential Resort Community in Western NC LAKE LURE, NORTH CAROLINA--Sitting atop the mountains of Western North Carolina and in one of the hottest luxury real estate markets in the nation, Devinshire Land Development Company knew what it had to do to truly be king of the hill(s) with Queens Gap and make their newest development the area's most sought-after property. "We knew that even with our world-class luxury resort and equestrian amenities, we would need our golf offering to be at the game's highest level," said Devin McCarthy, developer of Queens Gap. "And to get to that level, only one name could get us there: Jack Nicklaus." With a menu of amenity offerings unlike any in the region or on the East Coast, Queens Gap, a luxury residential resort in Rutherfordton, N.C., has added its signature item in a Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course. "Before we ever put pencil to paper or shovel to dirt, we know the canvas exists for something truly special at Queens Gap," Nicklaus said. "The mountainous terrain and naturally occurring elements, like large boulders and mountain streams, provide us a challenging, interesting and unique opportunity. With the impressive and dramatic long mountain views all along the course, the vistas at Queens Gap will be spectacular." Every Jack Nicklaus Signature Golf Course features extensive personal involvement by Jack Nicklaus, with numerous visits to oversee the design process--from the first walks of the raw property to opening day. "What goes into creating a project of this magnitude is the collaborative effort of a dedicated team, but what eventually ends up on top of that piece of ground will not only have my name on it, but a lot of me in it," Nicklaus added.
