The existing renovation strategy of the site is divided into two parts. For the remaining industrial buildings, four typologies are extracted from the site. The blast furnace now has a clear transformation plan. Other types are still under repair and maintenance. The strategy is to build new buildings in blocks.

New functions are integrated into the park, such as accommodation, extreme sports... serve the 2022 Winter Olympics. The park will be under construction over a period of time.

SHOUGANG PARK FROM BOTTOM UP

In order to allow citizens to use the Park in a short time to maintain its vitality instead of continuous closure of the park for construction,I choose to replace the large newly-built facilities with small modules. Due to their flexible set-up times , their construction period can be synchronized with the renovation of old industrial remains. When the industrial remains is closed for construction, the surrounding buildings can be quickly built to meet the needs of the nearby citizens. There will always be modules available when other parts are under construction. More complex architectural spaces can also be further formed after the industrial remains are put into use.

FROM A TOP-DOWN NARRATIVE TO A MORE “INTIMATE” APPROACH

Under the current renovation strategy of work by large blocks, constant construction has caused a burden on the nearby community.Citizens are looking forward to using the park in a short period of time and carrying out activities wich may enliven the community.

MODULER SYSTEMS FOR AN ON-GOING TRANSFORMATION

Based on the public demands of the citizens, three sets of modules are designed to correspond to three different activities. They can form three kinds of spaces: farming space, exhibited space, and entertaining space. All the modules can be placed on a hexagonal mesh with an edge length of 5 m, so they can also be naturally overlapped and combined. They were built around different industrial remains in the site, such as cylindrical cooling towers. The function of the tower after innovation and the modules depends on the needs of the citizens and the suitability of the surrounding environment. The newly placed building may be formed by one set of modules, or it may be a mixture of three sets.

TYPE-A URBAN FRAM

The large space in industrial remains can be simply used as a market or warehouse for agricultural tools, while modules can be assembled to form farming spaces outside. In the second stage,Top floor will serve as a field for citizens to cultivate in a shared and cooperative mode. At a certain stage of development, the lower part of the structure will appear to be markets for sale and exchange, and restaurants with shared kitchens. In the final stage The interior of remains will be retrofitted into a laboratory and cultivation rooms to support farms outside. In addition, residents can continue farming activities in the remains in winter.

A SHELTER HIDDEN IN THE MID OF DOWNTOWN AREA

“Churails” is a 10-episode series which tells the story of four women who came together to struggle because of the injustice of patriarchy. Together, they set up a clothing store, which connected to The Secret Space—a detective agency “Churails” that helps women. The clothing store has also become a shelter for their actions. This project will also explore the shelter space hidden in a clothing store.

Shah alam market is located in the center of a busy residential area. This street is full of clothing stores, shoe stores and mother-and-baby supplies stores, mostly visited by the surrounding women. If nearby residents want to seek shelter, this street will be the most secluded and accessible place. Al babar children’s clothing store had been suffered a fire in 2019 and waiting for a reconstruction plan. In this project, it is planned to rebuild the outer space according to the previous store, but the rest of the inner space will be transformed into a shelter for the surrounding women as in the play.

Because residents wanted to maintain appearance of the surrounding buildings, they erected a false facade here. interesting practice has also been applied to this project. In such a dense false facade can make the shelter more concealed, and leave some shelter ,setting it far away from the street.

THREE ARCHES

In the direction perpendicular to the street, three arch structures are placed, and the first arch serves as a transition space from the clothing store on the first floor to the shelter. The second arch accommodates the main public spaces in the shelter, such as classrooms and public rest spaces where lectures or small courses can be held regularly. The third arch is basically a relatively private space, the second floor is a dark room to help with psychological counseling or talk, and the third and fourth floors are suites that provide temporary accommodation. Several arches are connected by skylights.

LIGHTING IN THE SPACE

People may get spiritual healing with the mood varied with different sunlight. When the fierce light in the traffic space of the three arches comes in directly through the skylight, people moving in different spaces connected by the arches will feel the strong light changes. Besides, different methods are used to form different light rays matching different spatial functions. There are five types of light in the space. Type A is direct light. Asylum seekers enter the stairwell with strong light from the dark clothing store corridor, suggesting the change of space type. Type B is the light that peeps through the hole will change with time. Type C is located under the space of the central arch, with strong direct light on both sides of the arch, so the space in the middle will be filled with soft diffused light, making the main public space soft and warm. Type D is the traffic space with strong light between arches. Type E is located in the talk room at the bottom of the third arch, leaving several gaps on the wall. Light is conducted from the top along the arc of the arch, forming a faint soft light. It makes people feel safer and more relaxed here, better for talk and seeking help.

AN ACCOMMODATION IN THE DOWNTOWN

The space here has a completely different interior space from clothing stores underground or at noisy streets. The theme of space is more focused on tranquility and gentleness. Women who are in trouble in life and seek shelter can go through busy neighborhoods, mixed clothing stores, and then enter the quiet shelter by winding stairs. Maybe they found this shelter by accident, or maybe they came here according to the instructions when they needed help. It will be a space for women to be independent of their lives. In a public space with mild light, they can accept some simple skills courses or participate in mutual aid exchange meetings, or seek legal aid or psychological counseling. Or they just stay with people who have experienced the same difficulties, rest and communicate. The space here, completely different from the outside world, can be a haven for their temporary rest and a springboard for their new life. Standing in the sunny stairwell, or The secret garden behind the false facade, women may get the heart healing and the support.

KEY ELEMENTS EXTRACTED FROM ANCIENT PAINTINGS

As most theaters have been demolished and disappeared, it is difficult for us to imagine what the traditional opera building space is like through real buildings. From the drama scenes of ancient paintings, according to the interaction between audiences and performers and the space atmosphere, the space extracts are divided into three types. The first is “looking at each other”, in which the audience is divided into several areas, and certain contacts and exchanges can be generated between each area and performers. The second is “overlooking”, where the audience watches from a height or upstairs, while retaining a certain space of their own. The third is a more intimate viewing mode “sitting around”, where the audience surrounds the performers and the performers can have some borderless performances. The elements and characteristics of several traditional theaters are extracted from ancient paintings, and four key theater elements are re-integrated with modern design components. Each key element provides the type of corresponding spaces in the painting.Combining these key elements can flexibly form a new type of theater which can generate the atmosphere of ancient theatre.

Corresponding to the space type of “visual contact”, the audience is in a step, but it is divided into different viewing areas by ship-shaped handrails, just as people in different boats are watching the opera together in the same water.

Corresponding to the space type of “sitting around”, the audience and performers are in the “black box” of the same semi-building. There is no obvious boundary between the audience and the performers, so some experimental and more intimate opera performances can be performed.

THE STAGE

Extract the basic form of the traditional stage. The square area in the middle is the main performance area. The band sits in the back areas on both sides, moving backwards to avoid the sound wall interfering with the performance, and the back area is connected with the background area.

THE EXAMPLING SITE TWO OLD THEATRES IN THE CENTRAL BEIJING

Since the Qing Dynasty, a large number of theatres and the residences of opera actors had been distributed around Qianmen Street. The two old theaters, Qingyuan and Zhongheyuan, have gradually lost their original features in several fires, but the venue still retains their names, as if waiting for their memories to be regained one day. The venues of the two theaters just connect to form an L-shape. The renovation plan is to rebuild three different types of theaters on the site, connected with each other but also can perform independently. Area A mainly extracts the traditional courtyard as a theater element, which is a semiopen theater from the watchtower enclosure. Area B embeds two small blackbox theaters in the building for experimental or small performances. Area C is a relatively large indoor performance venue. The viewing area consists of stands, and large and small “boats” float on the stands, forming different viewing areas.

THREE NEW THEATRES

Theater A is a traditional courtyard theater. There is a small stage at the entrance for some small street performances to attract visitors’ attention. The viewing buildings on both sides can also be used for tea drinking and commercial activities. Go straight from Theater A to Theater B, you can enter two black box theaters to watch performances. Theater C is a relatively closed indoor performance hall. You can go up to the roof from the steps,The roof can also be used for outdoor performances.

RETURN TO THE TRADITIONAL OPERA SPACE

The design of the spaces in the three theatres further stress on restoring a space atmosphere suitable for the performance of Chinese traditional diences and performers, as well as the interaction, and audiences. Therefore, a relatively de-architectural space is formed in the courtyard various functions. This design also makes the whole theater more open to the streets, and turns the theater into a more public art space, which of traditional operas can also produce some innovations and attempts, breaking through the boundary between view and performance. The the Black Box Theater, which is more open and free. These four different performance spaces provide different feelings and experiences different environments and possibilities for the audience to watch the drama. Perhaps this can arouse people’s interest and enthusiasm in

traditional operas. It is more concerned with the habit of watching traditional dramas, the theatre space and the relationship between autheater. Passers-by can be attracted by the street performances of the small stage at the entrance, and enter the courtyard theater with which can close the connection between citizens and traditional operas. In the remaining black box theatres, small-scale performances

The indoor theater provides a special spatial connection and atmosphere between the audiences. There is a fourth open-air theater above of watching the drama, and also include several different pleasures in traditional drama performances. Therefore, the design provides traditional drama again.

CREATING PLACES USING TILES

Due to the fact that each tile can be connected to another. After establishing some simple connection rules and incorporating the tiles into WFC algorithm, the following spaces are manually produced. We can regulate the production of various sized building spaces. If new and more explicit connection criteria are implemented, we can obtain the exact number of required spaces. This ensures that the customer can obtain the desired structure based on their requirements and the rod modules we have provided. Or incorporate the desired room into an existing structure.

INTERIOR SPACES OUTDOOR BALCONIES

Since the project does not specify modules explicitly as beams and columns, modules can be utilized in a variety of ways. The modules can also be utilized as interior furnishings or as various dividers.

A building’s outside space, for instance, can be flexibly fashioned into a balcony. Or, when a new building is constructed nearby, it is simple to connect two structures using a bridge, etc.

MORE POSSIBILITIES

The project’s adaptability rests in the fact that it may be used to several building types and scales, including the construction of complexes for entire communities, and tall towers. As a result of the fact that all the poles and connections are integrated, different erties and can use different types of wood, making it easy to obtain local materials.
