MAPPING DISCONNECTION
01 HOUSTON: GREEN LIVING ROOM Community Redevelopment along Buffalo Bayou near Downtown Houston Individual Work Houston, TX Fall, 2016
My big idea of the site is to get Bayou back to the ‘Bayou City‘. When I went to the site. I found that there is almost no people hiking or running near the Bayou. I was surprised by the phenomenon. However, Houston was long called the Bayou city. And Houston’s early success was based on Bayou. It seems that people just use the Bayou but not live with it. Through the design, I want to create a green living space in the site.

MASTERPLAN For the Detail Design, the site in between Hirsch Rd and Lockwood Dr. was chosen due to the existing conditions, there are a lot of abandoned railroad in the site. My purpose is trying to build the green space system that could help the neighborhood have good access to the Bayou. Also, based on the contour, detention ponds are designed to help people live within the Bayou.

02 EVENT CAMPUS Integrated with Stormwater Management Group Work with Xueyang Huang, Xi Huang, Wanlu Ye Baton Rouge, LA Fall, 2015 Focusing on the front area of Tiger Stadium, the project deals with the problems of water systems, parking spaces, tailgating uses and daily activities of students. The project changes Nicolson Drive to create a large space in front of Tiger Stadium. Keeping 75% of the parking spaces and changing it into ecological parking area, helps to reduce the water outflow when it rains.

03 ECOLOGICAL JUSTICE Learning from Randolph Hester’s Thesis of Ecological Justice Individual Work Baton Rouge, LA Spring, 2016
My project’s main focus is ecological justice. My focus emerges from my analysis of the site. The site analysis revealed the problem of inaccessibility, exclusion and unequal distribution, which is exactly the issues that Randolph T. Hester’s thesis of ecological injustice identifies. As cities develop, urban renewal happens in the city design. The phonomenon of urban renewal is getting more and more serious in recent days. It condemned poor neighborhood, bulldozed homes and forced residents to move. Over time, injustice becomes more severe.

SITE ANALYSIS
ACCESSIBILITY
[PHASE 01] Second, my plan seeks to enable more citizens to have access of the site. The issues of access to community resources and destinations were addressed through the redesign of the public transportation system, including new bus routes with landscaping to create a more attractive scenery, followed by new development adjacent to the bus stops.

EQUAL DISTRIBUTION [PHASE 02]
01 UNDER HIGHWAY
Unequal distribution is a complicated problem that has existed for a long time in human civilization. It’s not merely a biological problem, but is also a social one closely combined with policy and economy. People in poor areas often cannot use their ecological resources as they desire. Over time, they had the injustice of unequal distribution of sources.
To solve the problem of unequal distribution, I used the existing green spaces map and the existing community sources map to find out where the unequal distribution is. Then, I rearranged the open spaces of the site to keep the equal distribution of resources and amenities. I would add more green spaces, commercial and infill more houses to the site.

04 PLANTING DESIGN LSU School of Veterinary Med. Healing Garden Individual Work Baton Rouge, LA Spring, 2017 The site is located in LSU campus. And it’s a healing garden. In the design, I kept some existing plants, such as the existing redbud, heavenly bamboo and crape myrtles. Then, I plant some evergreen trees, shrubs, perennials and groundcovers. 4

05 WATER STRATEGIES IN LAS VEGAS Individual Work Baton Rouge, LA Fall, 2015
Las Vegas is a city with one of the most serious water problems. The goal of this mapping research is to find out the water strategies in the city. Las Vegas Wash was experiencing signicant channel erosion from perennial ows of stormwater and wastewater euent from the Las Vegas Valley in 1970s. As of January 2010, more than 22,300 linear feet (4.22 miles) of bank had been protected with rock riprap (see map below). Bank protection is currently performed along the Wash as needed.
