CO2 bank beacon v public service
PROJECT 1
CO2 footprint bank Lifelogging,'self ethography', CO2 and everyday behaviour. The CO2 footprint is invisible and unconsciousness, how can we enhance the individuals understanding of their energy use ? This conceptual product aims to visualise the CO2 consumption to help people raise the awareness and change their behaviours to reduce their carbon footprint for the low-carbon lifestyle.
Duration: 2 weeks Project completed in the course “screen Collabrorated with Swedish company INTERACTIVE INSTITUTE

I S S U E Our CO2 footprint is very complex.Everything we eat, how we travel, the electricity we use, the amount of water we use to wash our hands and what sweater we decide to buy all end up in our CO2 footprint.
This task was about
"self ethnography". I used Gopro to log 4 hours of my daily life. From the video recording I observed my own behaviours relate to CO2 footprint.
The 4-hour recording consisted three scenarios and finally I chose the shopping scenario to as my final observation source. The whole shopping process consisted 2 parts: CHOOSE and PAY. CHOOSE(as a process of consumption ) : comparing commodities by different elements. e.g. price, contains,package... PAY(as a result of the consumption) : Using bank card to pay, get a receipt from the cashier and receive a message from bank‌ My original concept was to let co2 footprint as one element which could influence our mind when we were shopping (at the choose period) and we would receive a co2 footprint receipt after payment.
This project, it mainly focused on the visualisation interpreting, did not do much about the interface structure or user experience.
WHAT IS CO2 CONSUMPTION? WHAT THE CO2 CONSUMPTION RELATED TO? CO2 research Features of CO2 footprint.: From the research, the CO2 consumption would be influenced by the size of commodity, materials of package, transporting, brand. basic knowledge about CO2 consumption size brand transportation

When users finish shopping, they will receive a CO2 footprint receipt. Showing the items they buy and the corresponding CO2 consumption. Because the number is meaningless so I use the size of the dots to show the amount of consumption. The black dat acts as a reminder to notice user there are some items could be replaced by other same type of items but with different brand or volume to reduce CO2 consumption. When touching one item, it shows a list of better options to compare with the present one.
The left dot shows the present CO2 footprint. Users can scroll the list on the right so they can see different items together with their corresponding CO2 footprint shows in the middle. Via viewing of details, it will show the detail of the difference between two items. By this step, the user could be able to choose the lower CO2 consumption item for the next shopping.
The assistant function of Comparing. Showing much more details info for the two items. e.g. this page shows the causes of different CO2 footprint of two items due to the cow, the process of package and materials use. Finally, the user will receive a statement which shows the trend of the user’s CO2 consumption by months.
