Architecture had been something that I was fascinated by,I believe that one cant define architecture cause its influence is subjective there is always a new problem where one can expirement and learn from and thats what makes architecture so interesting.

Banshankari is as a dynamic hotspot due to its connectivity to the metro and the bus transportation hub, and it holds a great possibility to host a wide variety of people.

The focus is to design a mixed use space which would enable various classes of individuals to interact and learn from one another and help in socio-economic development.

01 GAME FACE (Mixed use Development)

To resolve an issue in the public domain using architecture as a tool, and to understand the dynamics of social groups.

5

The public hub would invite the individuals belonging to the MIG(middle income group) AND HIG(higher income group) and provide them with economic potential.

01 GAME FACE (Mixed use Development)

The appartment intends to act as an anchor for the nearby residence of the slum to provide a better lively hood and to introduce these individuals to the other groups (HIG AND MIG) of the society.

6

The context of the site is a transportation hub, This enables starts-ups to have an easy access to services and consumers Importantly the purpose of this establishment to serve as a bridge between the LIG and MIG community, thereby favouring both teams.

Market pavillion would allow the pushcart vendors to have a common area of gathering and thereby reduce the pedestrian congestion on streets.

01 GAME FACE (Mixed use Development)

By opening up the boundary walls of the temple, it would gain prominance and act as landmark therby inviting crowd.

The pavillion commands the street movement and by doing so helps people to connect with eachother.

Basavanagudi was formally developed around the 1800s, a devastating plague struck in 1896,1898 about 3000+ people died, the core areas of Bangalore at that time was Mavalli, Chamrajpet and Fort area.

Gov. supported madahava rao’s proposal of two extensions namely Malleswaram and Basavangudi.

Basavanagudi was an agricultural village called sukhanahalli consisting of groundnut fields, its believed that an enraged bull would ruin the groundnut year after year. Every year a groundnut fare called kadlekai parse is held around the bull temple.

02 OPPERTUNITY TO CHANGE (Sports Hub)

The morphology of Basanvangudi grew with the park serving as the heart around which the residential and mixed used buildings emerged and the corners of the park would have circular activity spaces so as to maintain a smooth flow of traffic.

11

To understand how a structure emulates a function and vise versa, In an environment where space is a constrain.

The urban city has dense residential spaces but lacks spaces for recreation and physical activities hence the idea was to create a compact sports facility that could entertain the public of all ages, at the same time remove the stigma of “entering a space”.

No visual or physical barrier to enter the activity center.

Amenities around Site

The UVCE campus is one of the oldest campus in Banglore established in 1917. The site has good connectivity via raod and metro. The library was one of the oldest structures in the campus hence the idea of this intervention was to celebrate the library and to rebuilt the other function in the campus so as to facilitate a performance arts campus. This step was taken to acknowledge that trend towards performance arts and to establish a “notion of change.” 03 EMBRACE CHANGE (Performance Arts Campus)

The curux for the studio was in impling the gravity of achitecture, and as to how architecture could become a tool to shape the character of a place and how those decisions could override trends and bring about new ones.

Using the library as a tool that stitches the past and the present .

15

Adaptive reuse of the old admin block and its arrival experience to create a sense of memory.

To create an internal environment so as to decrease the noise of road traffic. The volume of the space around must fluctuate to enhance the movement through the spaces.

All the blocks must have a sense of unity.

Located in the suburbs of Huskur, in Karnataka, this project was an opportunity to design a spacious living in a humble site of 30’x50’.The client had a very simple brief with a request for good ventilation and sarla vastu. The Architect wanted to incorporate two design options - one with the stucture on the ground and another with the structure on stilts this would provide an opportunity for a more spacious cohesive volume. However this option would render costlier in comparison. So the intension was to to tackel the cost through the use of cheaper but effective constuction materials which emulated the required function.

Site faces North and is surrounded by neighbouring plots on the sides. In front of the site their is a provision of 2.5’ of linear landscape and a linear park opposite to the site.

Usage of stilts to maximise habitable volume. and provode space for parking.

04 COMPACT HOME ( Raj Residence )

A 3 bedroom duplex home for a family of 5 people ,which also doubles as a work space for the client, with an aditional facility for a studio appartment.

Enables the structure to imbibe light and ventilation,and v eg et a i o n h el p s t o attain a sense of cohesiveness to the ground.

The placement of balconies also ment that the residents of the space could enjoy views of the l a n d s c a p e throughout the daytime in the living areas. And this would have rendenred inffective on palcing them in the bedrooms as it would be inactive throughout the day.

The intension was to bridge the house with the openess and hence help the residents perceive more volume than the site renders this was done with use of balcony which are provided on the public domains of the house.

Provision of pargola and terrace for gardening and to use as a relief space oouse the terrace is split into two zones hence the service zone near hinders the environment which is strategically paced on the side of the road.

Horizontal members where given more pecidence so as to balance out the verticality of the mass.

Located in the hilly context of coorg the site was part for a larger plantation of coffee and rubber. The intend was to create a structure that had control over this region. In order to achieve this the structure had to bend so as to give a wider field of vision .The client wanted the built form to perform with care to privacy and use of wienerberger wall, deck flooring. The architect took the oppertunity to blur the structure into the landsape and merge the two entities.

26

Cottage in the woods: The structure grows from the landscape elevating th e d e c k which seems to hower over the land. The Architect had this perception from the begining of the project and that enabled the design to grow within the paramenters of this concept.

Cottage ambience: Due to the large span the cieling height was in excess of 12’, So the architect decided to break this large volume with the use of wooden trusses. This acted as a design element and also helped limit the scale to human proportion.

Blurred boundary: The intent was to give respect to the lanscape as well as allowing the buiding to grow from it hence the lines sort of start from the landscape and reach the ridge of the built, and placement of trees over punchered roofs added to the effect.

DECK: The deck has the command over the whole landscape, due to its paranomic view and lets the residents engage from the public areas as well as the private areas. 05 COTTAGE IN THE WOODS ( Varun Residence )

I-Mara is a porch like feature native to coorg and its derived with the interest of having conversations outside the premises of the house. The intent was to use the i mara as the design feature for the entrance so as to contrtol the otherwise high roofs of the home.

The surrounding land always gravitates towars the built form, hence the incluence of architecture grows larger in a rural context. The architect uses the oppertunity to create a laungauge for the built form that would allow it to merge with the context(a feeling that it was always their). Clients control the potential of the design and in understanding them is what makes a good ARCHITECT.
