T
hose who are part of the AJP family know that we do not shy when facing challenges. The 2019/2020 season was one for the ages, with the number of events growing and the number of athletes competing in each event also increasing. Our team worked hard to fulfill the AJP’s goal of taking high quality Jiu-Jitsu competition to the largest number of people possible. Our anchor events, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour, saw the addition of a sixth stop on the tour with the successful debut event in Moscow, Russia. The other five events, in Tokyo, Los Angeles, Rio, Abu Dhabi and London, were once again huge successes. Athletes, officials, coaches and fans were treated to the level of quality they are used to get in each of our events. The 2020/2021 season is approaching rapidly and once again our team is ready to put a great tour on the road. As the world still feels the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic, the AJP is making the necessary adaptations to minimize the setbacks and have our events running as safely as possible. We are committed to keep our community informed of all the steps we are taking to be back in business as soon as possible. We would like to say thanks to all of those who have worked hard to make our events what they are today. Without your help, we couldn’t deliver such a high quality product to our athletes and fans. We hope you are safe and healthy. We once again would like to express our gratitude to His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of UAE Armed Forces, for his continuous support of Jiu-Jitsu. New Horizon As another thrilling AJP Tour season comes to an end, we look to the past months in search of teachings to be applied in the months to come. The 2020/2021 season will present even tougher challenges as the world continues to feels the effects of the global COVID-19 pandemic. With events put on hold worldwide, it is time to reevaluate our priorities and get in touch with those we love. Our Team at Jiu-Jitsu World Plus worked harder than ever to bring you the best coverage possible on all phases of the 2019/2020 AJP Tour. From Tokyo to Rio, From Moscow to LA, our reporters and photographers ranked up miles to be mat side on every ADGS event. We worked countless hours day and night to edit, design and deliver to you the best content possible. As we look ahead, we know we are ready for a new season and to continue to make available to Jiu-Jitsu fans a product like no other in our community. Each

In this final issue of the 2019/2020 season, we look back to our past interviews and collect the most meaningful statements. Coming from incredibly varied backgrounds, athletes from Brazil, Australia, Sweden, Norway, Wales and many other countries revealed their secrets for success on and off the mats. If you’re not posting on your social media channels are you even doing it? The athletes and fans at the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour London took that saying literally. Instagram, Facebook and Twitter were all flooded by posts before, during and after the two days of matches at the Copper Box Arena on March 7-8, 2020. The Abu Dhabi Jiu-Jitsu Pro (AJP) has announced important addition to the competition and ranking format for the 2020/2021 season. The updates aim at making the season even more thrilling for fans and for athletes. The new addition will guarantee a more competitive environment in each and every event of the tour, from local tournaments to all editions of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour. The first big change is the creation of a separate ranking exclusive for the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour. Another big change is the fact that athletes will now compete for end of the season awards and cash prizes within their weight classes instead of a one single prize for each belt color. In the 2020/2021 season, all ADGS events will feature purple belt, brown belt and black belt divisions only, both in the adult and Master 1 & 2 age groups. The entry system in the ADGS World Tour events has also been updated. Athletes will have to qualify through points acquired in local events in the AJP National Pro, AJP International Pro and AJP Continental Pro series. The ADGS Tours in Rio de Janeiro, London and Abu Dhabi will be classified as Prime stops offering athletes more points than the points offered in the ADGS events in Lps Angeles and Moscow (3000 points for black belt division winners instead of 2000 points). Another big change is the creation of ranking by weight classes instead of a single ranking for each belt color. At the end of the 2020/2021 season, the best athletes in each weight class will receive an award and cash prize.
Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour Ranking Athletes add points by taking part and placing on ADGS Events: Los Angeles, Moscow, Rio de Janeiro, Abu Dhabi, London. The ADGS Tour in 2020/2021 will feature Purple Belts*, Brown Belts and Black Belts (Adult & Master 1 & 2) only. Athletes need to acquire points through participation and results on local events – AJP National Pro, AJP International Pro, AJP Continental Pro to qualify for the ADGS Events. At the end of the season, an award and cash prize will be handed out to the best athletes in each weight class within a belt color.
AJP Tour Ranking
For the 2020/2021 season, the AJP Tour Ranking will exceptionally comprise the points athletes add during a 18-month period (May 2020 – November 2021). This extension is due to the rescheduling of the Abu Dhabi World Professional Jiu-Jitsu Championship from April to November. At the end of the season, athletes will be ranked according to their 9 (nine) best results on all AJP held events (ADGS, AJP Continental Pro, AJP National Pro and AJP International Pro), plus one extra result from the AJP Continental Pro Series and also the result at the Abu Dhabi World Professional Championship.

Awarding System
The AJP announced a different model of awards and cash prizes for the 2020/2021 season. Athletes will be awarded and receive cash prizes at each ADGS Event and also will compete within their weight classes for the award and cash prize as the best in the season. The AJP also introduced a series of bonus to make the tour even more thrilling for athletes and fans.
Best of the Season
Athletes in the ADGS Tour will compete within their weight classes for an End of the Season award and cash prize
Grand Slam Bonus
The GS Bonus will be awarded to any athlete who wins three or more consecutive major Abu Dhabi Grand Slam titles during the same season.
Super Slam Trophy
The SL Trophy will be awarded to any athlete who wins all six consecutive Abu Dhabi Grand Slam tournaments in the same season.
Golden Slam Plate
The GS Plate will be awarded to any athlete who wins all consecutive Abu Dhabi Grand Slam tournaments and the Abu Dhabi World Pro in the same season.
Triple Crown
The Triple Crown will be awarded to any athlete who wins all consecutive tournaments in the same season:
• Abu Dhabi Grand Slam World Tour (Super Slam Trophy) • Abu Dhabi King of Mats or Queen of Mats (Title Match) • Abu Dhabi World Pro (Champions Belt)
Career Boxed Set
The Career Boxed Set refers to winning one of every possible title over the course of an entire career:

A wonderful season needed a wonderful finale. The Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour reached its final stop in the 2019/2020 season once again at the Copper Box Arena, on March 7-8, 2020. For two whole days, the best competitors in the world battled it out in search of the ultimate glory. The adult black belt division for men and the adult brown/black belt division for women were as usual the highlight of the program. In the following pages, you’ll relive the thrills of each weight class.

Fast Track to Gold Each finalist fought once to be in the gold medal match. Lucas Feitosa caught Frederico Guimarães with a choke from the back. On the other side of the bracket, Francisco Jonas Andrade caught Kalel Santos with a toehold. In the final, Jonas was able to quickly make his guard game work and finish Feitosa with a triangle choke. In the bronze medal bracket, Kalel Santos beat Frederico Guimarães for the third place.

The Ruler Igor Terreco fought twice to be in the final. He beat Gabriel Frenham 11-7 and then beat Alexis Alduncin via referee decision following a 6-6 tie. Diego “Pato” Batista made it to the gold medal match with a toehold finish on Hiago George in the semifinals. The title was decided by a 6-4 lead in favor of Pato, who was able to control Terreco in a sweep battle during the entire five minutes of the final match. In the bronze medal bracket, Hiago George beat Gabriel Frenham and Lucas Silva for the third place.

Thiago Macedo also fought twice on his way to the gold medal match. He finished Tyrone Elliot and outscored Marcus Phelan 5-1 in the semifinals. The final was played safely by both competitors, as they avoided making mistakes. In the end, after a 0-0 tie on points, the referees saw Gabriel as the winner and division champion. In the bronze medal bracket, Ali Monfaradi beat Tyrone Elliot and Haidar Abbas for the third place.

In the most crowded bracket of the day, Natan Chueng fought three times to get to the final. He first beat Adrian Kozicz 4-2, then outscored Larman Leon 2-1 and finally beat Igor Verissimo 3-0 in the semifinals. Sweden’s Max Lindblad debuted with a 8-0 win over Alan Rodrigues, followed by a narrow 7-6 lead on Diego Ramalho and finally a 2-1 win over Pedro Neto. The final was a tough battle between two tough competitors. Max was able to sustain the 3-2 lead to the end and celebrate the title. In the bronze medal bracket, Diego Ramalho beat Lucas Silva, Igor Verissimo and Pedro Neto for the third place.

New Blood Poland’s Jakub Zajkowski made it to the final in three matches. He first beat Bradley Hill 2-1, then was gifted with an WO win over Ruben Lemos. In the semifinal, Jakub beat Brazil’s Julio Junior by submission. On the other side of the bracket, Jamie Paxman debuted finishing Spain’s Daniel de Souza and followed with a 3-2 win over Bruno Lima, from Portugal. The final featured new faces, but competent ones. Jakub made good use of his long legs and caught Jamie in a triangle choke to secure the gold medal. In the bronze medal bracket, Renato Cardoso beat Daniel de Souza, Julio Junior and Gilvan Costa for the third place.

Adam Wardzinski was merciless on the other side of the bracket, as he beat Croatia’s Luka Skoric 25-1 and made it to the final with a 9-0 lead over Russia’s Stanislav Varshavskiy. The final between the two teammates was a serious affair. Wardzinski built a 5-4 lead to maintain his post as the weight class champion in the last two events. In the bronze medal bracket, Santieri Lilius beat Pedro Elias and Stanislav Varshavskiy for the third place.

The finalists fought once to secure their spots in the gold medal match. Argentina’s Eliana Carauni beat Poland’s Martyna Iwat 5-1 and Brazil’s Brenda Larissa outscored Italy’s Serena Gabrielli 9-6. The final was a JiuJitsu version of a true Brazil vs. Argentina “Super Classico”. Brenda took the opportunity to go ahead 2-0 and sustained the lead until the end to beat Eliana and take the gold medal home, her second in the season. In the bronze medal bracket, Serena Gabrielli beat Brenda Dang and Thushara Amendra for the third place.

Four Times Ana Ana Rodrigues debuted on her way to the final with a 2-0 win over Vanessa English. After that, she beat Gabriela Fetcher via referee decision in the semifinals. Talita Alencar first beat France’s Helene Lo 13-1 and then beat Rose Al Sharouni 5-1 in the semifinal. The gold medal match was tense and fought to the very last second. Ana was able to score twice in the final moments to beat Talita 2-1 and win her fourth gold medal of the season. In the bronze medal bracket, Gabriela Fetcher beat Weronika Nitecka and Rose El Sharouni for the third place.

Norway’s Julia Maele first beat Carolina Carriello 5-0. In the semifinals, she beat Greece’s Zafeiria Panagiotarakou 11-0. On the other side, Ffion Davies fought once and caught American Alexa Yanes with a choke from the back. The gold medal match saw Ffion take the initiative early to build a 7-0 lead with a guard pass and mount. Maele was fierce but could not come back in the scoreboard. Gold for Ffion in London for the second year in a row. In the bronze medal bracket, Zafeiria Panagiotarakou beat Monika Markowska and Alexa Yanes for the third place.

Thamara Silva was merciless. She first finished Portugal’s Gracie Ferla and then caught Poland’s Weronika Rot with an armbar to make it to the final. On the other side, Martina Gramenius beat Brazil’s Ingridd Sousa by referee decision and then beat Bruna Maciel 2-0 in the semifinal. Martina was having a great performance in the final, as she was able to put the breaks on Thamara and keep the score at 2-2. That’s when the Brazilian worked a triangle choke to end the match and conquer her fourth gold medal of the season. In the bronze medal bracket, Bruna Maciel beat Grace Ferla and Ingridd Sousa for the third place.

Gabrieli Pessanha made it to the final with a 3-1 win over Katiuscia Yasmir. On the other side, Yara Nascimento beat Claire-France Thevenon 3-1 and then finished Ane Svendsen. The final was another chapter of a rivalry that gets more and more fierce with every new encounter. Yara gave all she had trying to take the lead in the end but Gabi was able to sustain the 4-3 and add another gold medal to her hegemony in the weight class. In the bronze medal bracket, Barbara Bergbauer beat Ane Svendsen and Claire-France Thevenon for the third place.

The mats at the Copper Box Arena saw a parade of talents of March 7-8, during the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour London. From the Master 2 black belt division to the juvenile blue belt division, athletes of all ages and weight classes gave their best on each match. The 2019/2020 season of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour was one for the history books. From June 2019 to March 2020, thousands of competitors took the highest level of Jiu-Jitsu to six of the most important cities in the world. Moscow, Tokyo, Los Angeles, Rio de Janeiro, Abu Dhabi and London were the stages of a global parade of talents and dedication to achieve the highest of glories. As the final match in the 2019/2020 ADGS season took place at the Copper Box Arena, on March 8, 2020, we immediately started to look at the numbers of an outstanding year of competitions. Here are some of the most important figures we found in the results of each event. In the adult black belt division, an incredible roster of champions from several nations made

their way to the top of the podium. In total, 41 different athletes conquered gold medals in the most important division at play, including both the adult male black belt division and the adult brown/black belt division. When you look at countries, the list is also large, as talents came from all over the world. Brazil, Sweden, Japan, USA, Poland, Australia, Norway and Wales are the eight nations that had champions in the adult black belt division. Each weight class in the adult black belt division featured intense duels and returning champions. Many athletes were able to win multiple titles. In the female brown/black belt division, Brazil’s Gabrieli Pessanha was the most successful competitor, tallying 5 gold medals in six events (Tokyo, LA, Rio, AD, London) in the 95kg division. Also from Brazil,
Gabriel Sousa was able to win four editions of the ADGS in two different weight classes (Moscow, LA, AD, London). Diego Batista was another competitor able to win four gold medals in the ADGS season (Moscow, LA, Rio, London). Thamara Silva was also a fourtime ADGS champion in the 2019/2020 season (LA, Rio, AD, London). Ana Rodrigues went into high gear and also won four gold medals in the season (LA, Rio, AD, London). Mayssa Bastos closes the list of four-time champions, with wins in Moscow, Tokyo, Rio and Abu Dhabi. The list of multiple time champions also include: Diego Ramalho (2X), Carlos Alberto Oliveira (2X), Martina Gramenius (2X), Brenda Larissa (2X) Adam Wardzinski (2X), Francisco Jonas Andrade (2X), Charles Negromonte (2X), Kalel Santos (2X).

All three weight classes had thrilling events that treated the crowd to insane action. In June 2019, João Gabriel Rocha ruled over the heavyweight bracket. In July 2019, Isaac Doederlein beat a battalion of Brazilians to reach the top of the lightweight division. In September 2019, Gustavo Batista landed in LA to beat the best in the middleweight division. The grand finale was reserved for Rio, on November 2019, when the three weight classes crowned new kings. Leonardo Saggioro, Isaque Bahiense and Jackson Sousa wrote their name in history. The big guys went into the action first. Ten of the most accomplished athletes over 94kg came together in Russia. João Gabriel Rocha, Kaynan Duarte, Rudson Mateus, Jonnatas Gracie, Jackson Sousa, Gerard Labinski, Donghwa Choi, Adam Wardzinski, Ricardo Evangelista, Igor Silva were responsible for a full day of non-stop thrills at the Triumph Arena, in Moscow. Brazil’s João Gabriel Rocha had a stellar performance on his way to the final, having top overcome a submission defeat to Kaynan Duarte on his very first match of the group stage. In the semifinal, Rocha survived a tight armbar attack to pass Jonnatas Gracie’s guard and win 3-0. In the other semifinal, Kaynan Duarte beat Rudson Mateus 4-2 for the right to fight for the title. The title ended on Rocha’s hands after a hair raising end to the final match. One advantage for a takedown in the final seconds earned João the narrow lead to claim the title of heavyweight ADKOM champion.

Isaac Doederlein came, fought and conquered! The Ota Gymnasium was the setting for a thrilling day of matches with 8 of the best lightweight competitors in the world, featuring Isaac, Gabriel Sousa, Diego Batista, Cleber Fernandes, Tomoyuki Hashimoto, Thiago Macedo, Wanki Chae, Nobuhiro Sawada. Isaac cruised through the group stage, finishing Thiago on an armbar, beating Diego 3-1 and Hashimoto also with an armbar. In the semifinals, Isaac quickly found the setup for an armbar on Cleber, but took him almost the entire match to get the finish. Gabriel made it to the final after beating Diego 4-2. Isaac did not waste a lot of time to secure the title with a foot lock that left Diego no other choice than to tap. The USA finally had a ADKOM champion.

Gustavo Batista had no easy path to claim his title in the Abu Dhabi King of Mats pantheon. Competing against seven aces including Isaque Bahiense, Tommy Langaker, Max Lindblad, Nathan Mendelson, Manuel Ribamar, Marcos Tinoco and Diego Ramalho, Batista gave all he had to reach the top. In the group stage, he first beat Marcos Tinoco 14-0, then managed a narrow 1-0 lead on advantages over Tommy Langaker and finally caught Diego Ramalho with a choke from the back. In the semifinal, Gustavo quickly found a way for a bow and arrow choke and the spot in the final. Isaque Bahiense made it to the final with a narrow 1-0 lead on advantages over Marcos Tinoco. The title was settled in a tough and very close match where risks were carefully taken. Gustavo managed a sweep to build a 2-0 lead early and held on to that until the end. He celebrated accordingly one of the greatest achievements of his young and successful career.

The Abu Dhabi King of Mats series landed in Rio for a short, but important engagement. Three new kings were set to be crowned in three super matches, The day was November 2, 2019, day 2 of the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Rio and the three matches debuted a new and exciting rules set that turned advantages and penalties into points, making matches much more thrilling.

Lightweight
Leonardo Saggioro waited over an year to defend his crown. After winning the original ADKOM lightweight bracket, on April 2018, he was supposed to fight Paulo Miyao, but the opponent ended up being American Isaac Doederlein. The match was epic. In the first half, Doederlein imposed his game and built a 4-0 lead. When everything seemed lost for Saggioro, the reigning champion went on beast mode to sweep and take Doederlein’s back. The match ended with a 7-5 lead in favor of Leonardo, who was able to remain as ADKOM lightweight crowned king.
Middleweight
Charles Negromonte and Isaque Bahiense met in Rio to fight for the crown. Negromonte held the honor of being the middleweight king for over a year, since April 2018. Bahiense got the chance to compete in Brazil after Gabriel Arges could not be present. The match was high paced and Isaque worked hard to build a 11-6 with strong guard passes. The middleweight division had a new King, Isaque Bahiense.
Heavyweight
The heaviest division was bound to see a new champion crowned. João Gabriel Rocha and Jackson Sousa got their spot deservedly through hard work and skills. The match was a close one, with both competitors showing a lot of respect for each other. Jackson worked his game plan perfectly and managed to keep the match where he wanted until the very end. Once on the ground, he built a 8-6 lead to secure the title and become the new heavyweight king.

The 2019/2020 season was the moment women’s Jiu-Jitsu reached new heights. On November 1st, 2019, the AJP launched the first ever edition of a groundbreaking series. The Abu Dhabi Queen of Mats landed in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with six of the most talented competitors in the lightweight division (under 62kg). Two months later, on January 17, 2020, it was time for the heavyweight division. The format of competition and the rules set proved perfect for even more thrilling matches as the contenders in each weight class took the mats by storm and awed the crowd with epic performances. In the next pages, we will remember the best moments that led to the crowning of the two first ever Abu Dhabi Queen of Mats.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil November 1st, 2019 1st – Luiza Monteiro (Brazil) 2nd – Ana Rodrigues (Brazil) 3rd – Bianca Basilio (Brazil)
Joined by Ana Rodrigues, Bianca Basílio, Amal Amjahid, Ana Talita Alencar and Mayssa Bastos, Luiza Monteiro was on fire in Rio, on November 1st, 2019. She entered the mats four times and finished no less than three of her opponents. Her campaign kicked off on round 2 of group B, when she was able to catch Talita Alencar with a triangle choke. Later on, she met up with Amal Amjahid and secured the win with an armbar. The semifinal put Luiza against fierce rival Bianca Basilio. Once again, Luiza kept the action level high and worked her way to Basilio’s back to sink choke for the finish. The rival in the title match would be Ana Rodrigues, who got to the final after three matches where she beat Bia Basílio by referees decision, Mayssa Bastos 2-1 on advantages and finally Amal Amjahid 4-2 on points in the semifinals. The title match was fast paced with Luiza using all her technique and experience to overcome Ana’s energy. After managing a back take, Luiza worked hard for the best position to get the finish in a choke, but Ana was relentless in her defense. In the end, a 4-0 lead was enough for Luiza to secure the title of first ever lightweight Abu Dhabi Queen of Mats. “I am so happy! I wanted to put my game to work on every match and fight to finish all my opponents. I almost did it. It’s an honor to compete against such tough adversaries from the new generation and prove that women’s Jiu-Jitsu can be as exciting as men’s,” said Luiza in the end.

Being considered a favorite means many times added pressure that some athletes have a lot of trouble dealing with. That’s not the case with Brazil’s Gabrieli Pessanha. After ruling the 95kg division in the recent past, Gabi arrived in Abu Dhabi on January 17 as the clear favorite for the title in the first ever heavyweight ADQOM. Gabi was joined by Nathiely de Jesus, Kendall Reusing, Thamara Silva, Martina Gramenius and Samantha Cook in a historic gathering of talent. She fought four times to reach the top of the podium. In the group stage, Gabi first beat Thamara Silva 6-4 in a comeback run after being behind in the scoreboard 0-4. She made it to the semifinals with a 4-0 win over Martina Gramenius after a back take. In the semifinal, Pessanha met up with well known rival Kendall Reusing, from the USA. Usually a tough and close match, this time Gabi was able to impose her game and build a 11-0 lead. On the other side of the bracket, Nathiely de Jesus made it to the final with three wins and three submissions. She caught Kendall with a kimura, choked Britain’s Samantha Cook from the back and finally found a choke to to beat Thamara Silva in the semifinals. The title match was another thrilling installment of one of the most intense rivalries in Jiu-Jitsu today. Gabi Pessanha and Nathiely de Jesus are always protagonists of intense matches. In Abu Dhabi, the rivals were very careful not to make mistakes. A narrow 2-1 lead was the edge Gabi had to secure the title as the clock hit zero. She couldn’t be more pleased with herself after the final win: “There was still a lot of people who doubted me. Said I was too young, only 19. Well, now I am the Queen. I want to thank God and all my family, friends and teammates for all the help,” said the newly crowned

Eight good practices to stay healthy on the mats
Keep your mats clean The training surface is probably the biggest vector of contamination in a Jiu-Jitsu academy. With hundreds of people rolling everyday, it gets really dirty really quickly. It’s vital that the mats are sanitized after every single training session to guarantee everyone’s safety. Don’t use just water, but products that kills germs, bacteria and viruses.

In times of global pandemic, it is more important than ever to take the right actions to stay healthy. With a few daily actions, every athlete is able to reduce the possibility of illness that will take them away from the mats and reduce your training time. Here are 10 simple things you can do it yourself.
Don't roll in dirty gis
Keep nails trimmed
Your kimono is not only your armor, but it can be also a big threat to your health and the health of others. Wash it daily and do it immediately after you arrive from training. Don’t leave it in your bag or in a bin.
A cut during a training section is a door wide open for infections. Accidents happen, but simple prevention measures reduce drastically the odds of it happening. Keeping your nails trimmed is a simple action that will make your training environment much safer.
Wear rash guards under your gi
Wash your hands more often
The less skin to skin contact you have during a training session, the safer you are regarding your health. Skin diseases are easily transmitted on the mat. Wear your rash guard and make everyone safer.
Not only for Jiu-Jitsu, but for everyday life, washing your hands is a basic habit that will make your routine safer.
Wear shoes whenever off the mats Your feet can bring countless harmful agents to the mats if you don’t wear shoes when walking off them. Never forget your sandals or snickers. Be mindful of your health and the health of others.

Shower immediately after training Jiu-Jitsu is a high intensity activity with lots of person to person contact, most times rolling with multiple partners. It is safe to say that you get out of a training section in desperate need of a shower. So, don’t delay it. The ideal is to shower in the gym, before going home. If that’s not possible, go straight home and shower as soon as you get there.
Don't train if you feel sick It’s important to know your body. If you don’t feel quite yourself, don’t show up for training. Most infectious diseases are highly contagious even in the first days of symptoms. Stay away, take care of yourself and only come back when you feel 100%.

Ffion Davies on the mat is a guarantee of great thrills for the crowd and big problems for her opponent. The Welsh black belt has a strong game that aims to the submission at all times. She wastes no time during her matches and is always looking for dominant positions that will allow her to get the tap. In London, this past March, she once again displayed the same will to finish her opponents. Here’s a breakdown of one of Ffion’s guard pass to back take that ended in a choke from the back.

Some wise person once said that it is the journey that matters, not the destination. We at Jiu-Jitsu World Magazine could not agree more with that statement. Since March 2017, when JJW #1 was launched with the coverage of that year’s Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour in Abu Dhabi, the stakes were high and the thrills were nonstop. The challenge our team accepted was no small task. To produce, edit and publish a 100-page publication that captured the grandiosity of the biggest Jiu-Jitsu tour in the world. Back then under the banner of the UAEJJF, the Abu Dhabi Grand Slam Tour and the National Pro and International Pro Series were a global affair that lasted the entire 12 months. Our team ranked up miles going from city to city to capture the biggest matches and tell the greatest stories. Today, as we look back, it was all worth it. We rode planes, boats, taxis, Ubers. We visited palaces and slums. We told the stories of global superstars and also the struggles of unknown beginners. Our pages were open to all of those who loved and lived JiuJitsu. We went far and we brought the story home. From Tokyo to Rio, from Ashgabat to LA, from Jakarta to London, our team crossed borders and defied timezones to bring you the best images and share the latest news. The year of 2020 is an unique one. As the Covid-19 pandemic sweeps the globe and alters schedules and lifestyles all over the planet, the Jiu-Jitsu movement also felt the blow. Jiu-Jitsu World Magazine is adapting to the new realities to continue to bring Jiu-Jitsu fans the content they are used too.
