Each material has different opacity and textures which generate various light effects in the space. Exhibition and meditation space should avoid a direct sunlight so opaque stone walls are used, but library has many transparent glass panels to get enough lights.

Exploring various materials is the preliminary step to know the physical properties. Material selection will contribute to improve the space quality. In this project, various materials are considered and explored to satisfy the client’s purpose. Standing wall panels are painted with white color to present art works purely based on 3’ wide module. As space could be separated or united according to the panels’ height, various wall panel sizes are tested to find the right proportion. Also, furniture‘s location and sizes are considered to provide convenient movement and to arrange the interior space. Painting and artworks take charge of atmosphere in the space. Two hawthorn trees and Rodin’s statue in the courtyards are designed to fulfill the aesthetic landscape with the building.

Celebrated Decomposition 120 HOURS Competition 2014 Partner : Yoonseok Lee Site : Pyramiden, Norway Program : Architectural Preservation The term preservation in architectural realm has been attempts to freeze or repair architecture to idealistic status of a building which is in fact highly subjective. In fact, a status of a building has never been static from the period of schematic design to completion. The project experiments with an idea of preservation that allows, fosters and celebrates every changes in time. The reason why an idea of preservation has been important is because of the existence of time. In other words, preservation is a celebration of time and the time that one went through. Without the notion of time, there is no need for preservation. The site Pyramiden resonates with multiple contradictions. Abscence and existence, downfall and prosperity, decomposition and reproduction, human and nature. The project is a catalysis to dissolve opposing momenta together in the very site by using seed bomb(plants and animals) as an agent.

The site Pyramiden resonates with multiple contradictions. Absence and existence, downfall and prosperity, decomposition and reproduction, human and nature. The project is a catalysis to dissolve opposing momenta together in the very site by using seed bomb(plants and animals) as an agent. In such tundra climate, scientists project the future of the leftover buildings of Pyramiden to visibly stand for over 500 years as if they were kept in a refrigerator. But the project take advantage of plants blooming from seed bombs and life drawn to the flourished habitat will actively foster physical entropy of the built environment. These days, because of the advent of material science and technology, finiteness of a building became relatively rare and outdated. This project in another perspective will also be a simulative monumental decay of architecture that compresses a length of 500 years long process that will provide engaging experience to people. Besides, the project attempts to give the territory that has been demolished by human back to the nature in a respectful way both to the nature and human achievement by providing productive dissolve.
