DESIGN ATTITUDE
2
I’ve missed more than 9000 shots in my career. I’ve lost almost 300 games. 26 times I’ve been trusted to take the game winning shot and missed. I’ve failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed. —Michael Jordan
Since I was young I had the dreams of becoming an architect. After stumbling across the field of landscape architecture, my dreams changed. I began to develop a passion for the work I have been doing school, as well as a passion for the possibilities I could achieve after I graduate. The start of my collegiate career started unenthusiastically, but after discovering landscape architecture and accepting my choice to attend Penn State’s program I found a place to grow a passion. I enjoy learning as much as I can. I have made myself known among my peers, and I have become a respected student among faculty. Although I developed a love of landscape architecture, I did not simply become good at the work I produced; I failed countless occasions, to the point of almost changing majors. However, I succeed now because I did not allow myself to give up and abandon a promising future. I have pushed myself harder and farther than many of my peers so that I may succeed.

BARTRAM’S GARDEN

Philadelphia, PA DESCRIPTION: This is my most recent project, I am currently developing that master plan further in certain areas of the site. The site is located on the Schuylkill River, next to the neighborhood of Kingsessing. Our goals for the site have been to redevelop a former brownfield with a long industrial history. My design for the project has been contrasting the grid system that Philadelphia was developed around with a flowing pastoral landscape along the river. I have focused on various connections and attention to relationships with the river.
TALLEYRAND PARK
5
Bellefonte, PA DESCRIPTION: This is my first project of my fourth semester. The project involved creating a new design for an unprogrammed park near State College. My design focused on using the characteristics of Victorian style, which is the era that Bellefonte developed, and creating a design relatable to such characteristics. I created a design that gives various programming plus links other green areas in the near vicinity. I focused on a colorful plant palette, as well as different experiences created within the site.

PENN STATE SHEEP FARM
6
State College, Pa DESCRIPTION: This project involved designing a plan with specific programming for a sheep farm near Penn State. My design involved creating a wandering landscape for people to explore, while also having adequate pasture space for the sheep. I also aimed to achieve ecological linkages between the North and South ends of the site. I created three major concepts for the design: focal points along a promenade, contraction and expansion to create optimal views, and successional planting strategies.
CITYGARDEN
7
St. Louis, MO • AutoCAD
DESCRIPTION: In my Visual Communication studio, I was taught AutoCAD, SketchUp, And Rhinoceros; the capstone of each program was CityGarden in St. Louis, Missouri. I drafted a CAD plan, along with detailed sections. The plan and sections were done in the style of a construction document where I compiled the drafts into a single file.
CITYGARDEN
8
St. Louis, MO • SketchUp DESCRIPTION: After drafting the plan to CityGarden in CAD, I exported it to SketchUp. I was given certain dimensions to create an accurate model. This project involved using V-Ray to create rendered views for submission, along with the model of CityGarden.
CITYGARDEN
9
St. Louis, MO • Rhinoceros
DESCRIPTION: The goal of this project was to create a model in Rhino from the plan drafted in AutoCAD. We were given certain dimensions and spot elevations of significant features within CityGarden. After the model was rendered, I exported it to Adobe Illustrator, where I added colors to the plan for submission. Also, I experimented with V-Ray on the model with my personal time; I added certain textures and materials to the base to create a more realistic rendering.
PHOTOSHOP RENDERING
10
First Semester Studio DESCRIPTION: This is the third rendering that I created in Photoshop. I was given the linework and had to give a color rendering on it. I began with base colors for each element, then I began to add textures and other colors. I used a program that allowed me to render certain trees specifically to the style of the rendering I was creating. I finished adding shadows and people to create some depth and reality to the render.
