English Tall Clock, Arabesque Face, Durham Circa 1800 English tall clock. Wide oak and mahogany case with supporting columns, glazed bonnet with shell finial, pendulum decorated with thistle. 1930's Boston Beer Co. Wooden Keg and Taps Top carries original green painted rim with engraved "BOSTON BEER, CO, B OSTON, MASS (missing letter "o"). Partial tax label affixed to top, numbered "0027562366". Body is secured with four metal bands, engraved "BOSTON BEER, CO. BOSTON, MASS". Stopper carries traces of red paint. Bottom carries original green painted rim, with engraved, "BOSTON BEER, CO. BOSTON, MASS." 24.75"H x 15"W at top. Five brass and steel taps, four are embossed, "Golden Gate", one is engraved, "Star Brewing Co." The Boston Beer Company, deemed "the oldest operating brewery in America", post prohibition, was founded in 1828 by Irish immigrants. They manufactured pale ale and porter at the corner of D Street and Second Street in South Boston, Massachusetts until they ceased operations in 1957. Nicholas Gilman (1755-1814) Sword and Family Bible 18th Century silver hilted small sword with Colichmarde blade. Hilt is profusely decorated with pierced cross hatched diamond cut stars with foliate designs, having pierced clamshell guard, bow knuckle guard and pommel with high capstan, wood grip with silver wire wrap. Three sided blade carries etched decoration of stands of arms, foliate designs and a radiating sun. Fullers run length of blade and terminate at point. Leather washer is in place at ricasso. Sword has no visible hallmarks and is likely a French import. Sold together with Nicholas Gilman's personal family Bible, dated 1809. Three pages carry penned family history. Reverse of title page reads, "Property of" with signature, "Nicholas Gilman- October 1810". This important and historical sword belonged to Revolutionary War Officer and U.S. Constitution signatory, Captain Nicholas Gilman (1755-1814) of Exeter New Hampshire. Gilman joined the 3rd New Hampshire Regiment as adjutant to the Regiment's commander, Colonel Alexander Scammel. He began his service in 1777 with the Ticonderoga campaign against British General Burgoyne and served at the Battle of Freeman's Farm. Gilman was with Washington at Valley Forge and was promoted to the rank of Captain in June 1778; serving under Colonel Scammel, who was promoted to Washington's staff. Gilman spent rest of the war on Washington's staff and saw action at the battles of Monmouth and finally the British

surrender at Yorktown. In 1786 the New Hampshire Legislature appointed Gilman to the Continental Congress. He represented the State of New Hampshire at the Constitutional Convention in Philadelphia in July 1787 and in 1789 was a member of the House of Representatives at the First United States Congress where he served four terms. Gilman returned to New Hampshire in 1800 and served as a State Senator until 1804 when he was elected to the United States Senate. He served as Senator until his death in 1814. CONDITION: Silver hilt carries a mellow grey patina with remnants of polish in devices. Grip wire is loosely wrapped around wood grip. Blade is mostly grey with some light scattered surface oxidation, with an area of slight ripple three quarters of the way down. Overall, an honest and original untouched weapon of great historical significance. PROVENANCE: Property of Vicki (Hopkins) Donlan - great, great, great, great niece of Nicholas Gilman. Notarized attestations accompany lot, including an attached fourteen page facsimile of a conformed copy of the Will and Deed of Trust for Joseph T. Gilman, in which this sword is referenced as "the property of my great, great uncle, Nicholas Gilman, who was the Paymaster General on the staff of General Washington during the Revolutionary War".
