ACTIVATING THE EDGE
MACHANGARA RAVINE RENOVATION
01
INDIVIDUAL WORK RIVER EDGE DESIGN,QUITO,ECAUDOR JAN, 09, 2016—MAY, 08, 2016 UNIVERSITY OF PENNSYLVANIA INSTRUCTOR: David Gouverneur
We spent two weeks in Quito to study the local situation. We found out that contamination and urban dump are the major water problems. As well as the disconnection. However, because there is hardly anyone in that area, it has a great ecological value with a lot of trees. I consider it a great opportunities to create a productive landscape that can provide jobs and money. I connect the existing hotspot in the city to the ravine to guide people to that area.

Goose island is a former industrial district located in the heart of Chicago. However, it was abondoned due to the high land value. How to transform it into a environment that is more suitable for modern industry is a problem.

This is an ancient city walls located on the edge of the Xuan Wu Lake in Nanjing and the other side of the wall is the city. They were originally built in Ming dynasty and it has gradually a beauty spot. However, many places along the ancient wall has been built as private area and it isolated the ancient from the city. The value of the ancient wall can not be fully activited. Only a few spots along the ancient like the Gate of the wall can attract the public. We did a research on how to maximumly attract people to go to enjoy the beauty of ancient wall.
