A Student Favorite: The Can Game. Object- don’t touch the trash can, but make others hit it. Always fun!

The Summer is here... already. Ever feel like time is flying by and there’s nothing you can do? Me either... but it is! As summer is upon us, we will be doing our usual change of pace with the Wednesday night program. A number of families have agreed to host us at their homes each Wednesday of the summer! Some will

have food, pools, bonfires and more so come prepared for anything! Some of the locations may be further away and we will offer rides from t he church. To al l ow t he pleasure of the Bon Fires, we will meet from 7-10pm at the host homes. I pray that students and adults alike realize the opportunity this is to get to know more students and for students to bring friends to a

low-pressure situation filled with fellowship, a short devotional, and a lot of relaxed fun! Our goal has been and continues to be loving God, loving others, and making disciples so there will be teaching and even great opportunities to serve! Check the calendar and let us know if you have any questions! office: 569-2615 email: theyouthoftrinity@gmail.com

“Don’t Be Stupid Stupid” By: Brian Berry (Group Magazine May/June ’13)

During our weekly breakfast, I asked my middle-school son, Tyler, my favorite one-on-one question: “Is there anything we should be talking about that we aren’t talking about?” He bit his bagel and said, “My friend got caught ditching youth group and making out with a girl.I think it’s stupid, and dating in middle school never lasts.” I looked over my shoulder in search of a camera. Was this for real? You mean I didn’t have to steer a conversation about tacos, burps, and paintball back to a deeper topic? This was crazy. So I just agreed with Tyler, and we started talking about the stupid stuff people do. We called out some lame addictions, words we later regretted, and choices that left us feeling duped by life. I confessed some; he confessed some. It was going so well I almost felt guilty. Almost. Then, out of morbid curiosity, like a middle school gossip, I asked Tyler how his friend got caught. “His girlfriend’s mom was at church for small groups,” he said, “and she followed them when they headed around back.” “Doh! Not the brightest move,” I said. “Yeah, that’s stupid stupid,” Tyler replied.

“Stupid is making out. Stupid stupid is doing it at church and getting caught by her mom. Their parents talked, and now they aren’t allowed to date.” Again, I searched for a camera. But apparently, unlike the friend’s mom, I was getting a “parenting-teenagers-is-tough” free pass. Not wanting to be stupid stupid myself, I just ran with Tyler’s thought. We decided that making a stupid decision was one thing but repeating it should be called stupid stupid. I told him the Bible has a verse for stupid stupid stuff.Proverbs 26:11 reads: “As a dog returns to its vomit, so a fool repeats his folly.” Finally we got to talk about vomit and dogs and disgusting stuff. I felt almost normal again. I once heard someone say, “Quality time is an accident that happens during quantity time.” Call it accident or divine appointment, but sometimes God just shows up. Not making space for that is stupid parenting. Missing it when it does happen is stupid stupid. Truth is, I’ve been guilty of both. So now I have a new parenting prayer: “God, please protect me from being stupid stupid. Amen.”

1. That the students would serve as ambassadors for Christ, being a GOOD witness to the kids we encounter. 2. That the team would not have any infighting or bitterness, but grow in closeness to one another and to Christ. 3. Safe travels to and from NJ and while there to and from the worksite. 4. That we might accomplish enough work on the church (with safety) that it makes a lasting difference. 5. The team might have time to process all that they are experiencing and find a way to share it with one another. 6. That the life change on this journey might be long-lasting and inspire the team and others to be courageous in their faith.
