Starting a Home Juice Cleanse? Here’s what to Do and What Not To

Drinking juices is a great way to provide your body with an abundance of nutrients. Many of us cannot afford the time to make an elaborate vegetable or fruit salad at home. But having a glass of juice for breakfast can make up for that. Juice cleanse has become very popular today in Singapore cafes and restaurants are now doubling up as juice bars and offering people various detox programs and varieties of juices to choose from. But going for a juice cleanse program can be expensive and many people might not be willing to spend so much just for drinking juice. The good news is that you can do a juice cleanse right at home without spending the extra money on expensive detox programs. But preparing your mind and body for the cleanse is very important. Here’s what to do and what not to do before and during a juice cleanse. Dos...  Prepare yourself for the cleanse. There are two reasons for that. One, to avoid detox symptoms such as headaches, digestive discomfort, and mood swings. Two, to avoid impulses to eat when on the cleanse. Stay away from caffeinated drinks alcohol and processed food from at least a week before the cleanse. Eating more organic, protein-rich food is essential to help your system to prepare for the detoxification.  Drink plenty of water during the cleanse. In addition to the liquids in form of juices, water will help your system to flush out the toxins. Drinking water will also reduce the rate at which sugar is absorbed while having juice.  A juice cleanse is very energy-consuming. The liver and the kidneys work overtime to facilitate the detox. Remember,


without solid food, you will feel tired more often and you must always allow yourself to relax. Sleep well and take naps in between to save more energy that will be used by your body in the cleaning.  Be active. Exercise is helpful when on a juice cleanse. Try light yoga, walking or stretching. If you go for more intense exercise, increase your juice intake.

Don’ts...  Avoid stress as much as possible while on the cleanse. It is natural to think about food but try to avoid killing yourself with work. Do things that you enjoy and try to keep your mind relaxed. Relaxing activities will help your mind remain balanced and focused and facilitate a better detox.  Don’t push yourself. Know your body’s limits and don’t overdo anything. Everyone’s system is unique and responds differently. Some people may respond well to a juice fast but that does not mean your body will function the same way. If you have health conditions, make sure to talk to your doctor/healthcare provider before going on a juice cleanse.  If you really want your juice cleanse to be successful, you have to stick to stick. Don’t give up on the first day. It will feel difficult and your brain will receive hunger signals telling you to eat. Give your body time to adjust to the cleanse.
