Q. If you were a tree what kind of tree would you be? A. Well, gee, I’ve never even thought about that before. Hmm ... a redwood? Or maybe a pear tree? Q. If you were a star wars character who would you be? A. Definitely Chewbacca. I’d get to fly, shoot a cool crossbow, & roar whenever I wanted. Let the Wookie win! Q. What is your favorite color? A. Purple! Q. What is your favorite drink? A. Chocolate milk --- mmm yummy!

Q. What would I find in your refrigerator right now? A. Leftovers, yogurt, & a lot of milk (I have a 2-year-old boy, need I say more?) Q. What is the last book you read? A. I must confess it was a Nancy Drew mystery. I was looking for a quick read one night -- it was quick, but thoroughly predictable. Q. What is your favorite song? A. I can’t pick just one ... Landing in London by 3 Doors Down, Memories of Us by Keith Urban, Because We Believe by Andrea Bocelli, & Haven’t Met You Yet by Michael Buble are my current faves. Q. If you could be any character in fiction, whom would you be? A. Well, if we’re talking book fiction, I guess Arwen from Lord of the Rings -I’ve always wanted to be an Elf. :) But if we’re talking any form of fiction, it’d be Neytiri from Avatar, hands down.

Q. Tell us about your design process. A. Well, it usually starts with a theme, sometimes with just an idea for one element. Then I brainstorm and write down anything that comes to mind, including possible color combos. Then it’s time to pull out the sketch book and start drawing. I work on the color scheme next, based on my brainstorming ideas. Once I have the colors, I start building the patterns for the papers, and sometimes work on elements simultaneously -- especially if I need the element for a paper. After I finish the papers I hammer out the rest of the elements and finish up with an alpha. Oh, and then there’s all the previewing that must be done. That’s my basic workflow ... but there’s often a lot of overlap as the kit develops and progresses. Q. How did you find the digiscrapping world? A. I was searching for a way to scrap with a computer, as paper scrapping took too much time to set up -- and way too much time to clean up, lolol! Q. How did you start designing and what was your first store you sold in? A. I started trying to create my own stuff from the beginning, using tutorials and playing around in PSE, and later PS. But I waited nearly 2 years before trying my hand at selling. I sold my first kit at Enchanted Studio Scraps. Q. Is there anything else you’d like to tell us and share with our readers? A. Hmm ... never be afraid to try something new. Play around with your programs. Try challenges. Be bold. But stay true to yourself as well. And for those that are curious about ME -- I’m a 28-year-old SAHM to a rambunctious little boy and wife to my fabulous husband of 4 years. We live in the middle of nowhere (quite literally) and have no intentions of leaving anytime soon. I graduated with a BS in biology with every intention of becoming a zoologist ... and now I design! I am absolutely loving life and I am so thrilled to be pursuing some of my dreams.

Go Hybrid, My New Year’s Resolution! by, Vivienne Oestergaard

Hybrid scrapbooking….that is my New Year’s Resolution in terms of crafting. I am in love with the idea of it. Way back when, I used my computer to layout my journaling for my traditional paper scrapbooks. I used clipart to make elements to print out, cut (yes, I didn’t exactly adhere to the acid-free paper mantra), and stick into my books. Now, this is what you would call hybrid scrapbooking, mixing the traditional paper with the digital. Now, I adore digital and embrace it completely. But in going back to my roots of paper crafting, this year, I intend to spend more time working on combining the both of them. And in helping me to create this idea, there are quite a lot of kits involving hybrid scrapbooking. Take a look at the DigiChick, where you’ll find the Queen of hybrid, Kelleigh Ratzlaff Designs. Her templates for treat bags, envelopes, boxes, and printables make it so easy to just drop in your choice of digital papers and elements, print out, cut out, and assemble! She makes it look oh, so easy!!! And it is!!! And of course, over at Funky Playground, they offer a monthly hybrid kit with the physical products actually sent to you and you download the digital products. All matching, with different projects ready for your creativity. Lie Fhung, or better known as Studio Ztampf at Scrapbookgraphics, has various kinds of calendars if you still haven’t done yours yet! I like this one, for insertion in a CD case, for your desk, and it’s available in multiple languages:

I found some really cool journals and planners made by Hybrid-licious at Inspiration Lane including this awesome weight-loss planner that would fit in with my other New Year’s resolution!!! Shannon Dale at Scrap Matters has some ADORABLE cupcake holders for you to make: These already have the pattern on the template so all you do is print and assemble. You won’t have to hassle with dropping in a “paper” so it’s quick and easy. Biograffiti at ScrapArtist has an awesome coupon book/organizer that looks tantalizing. There’s a template version so you can drop in your own papers and there’s a complete one using Fiddlette’s (also of ScrapArtist) designs. This one is perfect for gifts too!

Lastly, have you seen the latest trend of art journals? Here is where you can really get creative digitally and manually. This is one thing I haven’t done yet so it’s on my New Year’s list. Current designers who work in this genre: Tangie Baxter, SherrieJD, Roben-Marie (at the DigiChick), Fiddlette and Laurie Ann and most of the designers at ScrapArtist, and of course Beth Rimmer (Digitals). I will just have to sample their products and get my hands dirty! Oh, so much to do and so little time to do it all!!!
