TENSIONING
S E C T I O N N I N G
F O L D I N G
first iteration : Sectioning
I used sectioning which is a series of profiles Which edges follow the line of surface geometry, as the major element to create a gradual changes .
inspiration
The gossamer installation, by Berlinbased Barkow Leibinger Architects, is part of the fourth Marrakech Biennale.
Titled ‘Loom-Hyperbolic’, the sitespecific work in the grounds of Mosque Koutoubia, Moroccan
is
inspired
weaving
craft
by
the
and
the
geometry of Marrakech architecture.
Second iteration : tensioning
I chose to use tensioning because it is a controlled dramatic or dynamic quality For the shelter, the fabric can be stretched across sets of arches ( plastic) The design of the shelter is to make visitors feel like they were inside a cloud The labyrinth can be build with garden fencing and to covered with fabric that reveals the transparency grid pattern The avantage of thegarden fencing is its flexibility We can do aslo the labyrinth with some piece of wood or cardboard with different size to create a harmony and a mysterous experience
The labyrinth encourages the visitor to mediate before to enter in the shelter . The shelter is the metaphor of the cocoon
Labyrinths have an effect on the space they occupy. they help to create a certain atmosphere
the labyrinth provides a safe, supportive environment for anyone who wants to experience these life-affirming results:
●
slowing down and restoring balance in your life;
●
reflecting and gaining insight on present challenges;
●
kindling a personal sense of mission;
●
inspiring creativity and incubating the imagination;
●
transforming perspectives and reconciling differences;
●
restoring a sense of communion with others.

FINAL PROJECT : TREE NET
site 1
Potential strengths -
Visible site Views( hillsite) Nature Sun Not really flat ( more mysterious) The trees can be support to the structures Close to the loading zone Drawbacks
-
Farther away from the outlet The ground has an uneven slope Two trees is too symmetrical
first iteration
The bench approach is selected by the group : -
adequation with the site( trees encapsulated by the seating area)
-
the floating shape on the bench embraced the slope
-
the path is well defined with an open view
Second iteration
The previous model is too obvious, we need to had some : -mysterious (canopy) between the two tree or a wood barrier allows to close the view on the courtyard and create an intimate space
Third iteration
If the curvilinear shape is esthetic, it’s look more complicate to build and less affordable. We decided to work on a angular shape we may not finish the design due to a complication to cutting the angular angle
I N S P I R A T i O N
sitting area - Project of a french architecture school
Canopy - Moca in Shanghai
Given up of the project by : -limitation of knowledge pertaining to construction and material -limitation of experience with varying slopes -limitation of time to build the wall and the ceiling - time and money
fourth iteration
We decided to buy just a couple of 2x2 boards and try to create one column with its supports and bury it at least 1.5 feet under the soil. Even though some aera of the site was easier rest of it was very dificult to dig because of the roots. we were all disapointed but had to move on. And go back to the drawing board ! We don’t have many time now. After a research, we chosing to use the reciprocal designs in which beam supports, and its turns is supported by all of the others. After working with2 sticks to create some of the RP models we decided to use the Square model.
final iteration
The form is inspired by the natural setting and the will to respect , converse to nature. It is look like a native habitat like a yurts, igloo ‌; or birds nests These forms which converse together are flexible, light and nomadic. it is an invitation to wonder, to drift. Everywhere the mouvement seem natural , they are fluid , rippling.
The pavilion features is an organic repetitive pattern that mimics the cellular structure of honeycombs. The honeycomb cells are attached to each other using standard plastic fasteners, and the entire structure was assembled over the course of 3 Weeks. The trees are joined together through their canopies the creation of natural archways and provide the structural solidity of the whole installation, given its sheer size.
Site area
-
Advantages Vertical surfaces opportunities re-utulisable materials ( easily to assembled and dissemble) easily scalable no math required fixtures are simple to install affordable solution quicker process pragmatic design
-
The technique of reciprocal frame helps to resolve the difficulties of our aera ( slop, roots and impossibility to diggs).It is a self supported three dimensional structure made up of four sloping rods which form a closed circuit namely an RF unit
-
Embrace the tree and grouping the forms into the two trees and create a junction between them
-
the roof form create a dynamic solar/wind
Design model : Zome design in the original sense is a building using unusual geometries ( differents from the standard house or others building which essentially use a series of rectangular boxes) based open organic geometric design
Innovation -
Connector system Zip Tip Easy materials we can make an easy adjustement and Afford a huge flexibility Less clustery The plastic zip draw attention to our rapidly changing society, where technological innovations of yesterday quickly becomes obsolete
Esthetics -
Simple, Minimalism. lightness
-
Structure creates a differents space and paths
-
Circular frames is softer and more confusing in nature
-
Natural colors of the wood and ropes making the design seems effortless and lightness
-
it is a amusing design . it refers to a model construction toy and it appeals to adults as well as children
Learning/difficulties -
The use of curves To rely on tension and compression to creates a strong and efficiency structure Gravity for the roof A sloping area To be able to adapt and quick decisions in contenting everybody Avoid the obvious
We use the 8 feet lumbers without leftovers we cut them into three inches of lumber sections. We use 2X2 inch lumber pieces because thickerl umber created bigger angles between the connections. And at the end the models risse faster and creates a dome shape Materials 6o pieces of Pine Lumber 2X2X8 2 bunches 100 feet of natural sisal rope 600 2/pk natural tip zip
Application of reciprocal frames

conclusion
The final installation utilized the talents of all the students, each tasked with a specialization and together in the final four weeks we constructed a nice space.we built many model before to choose one, and to help us translate our vision to the full-scale installation. All of us, working together, each doing our own small part, could collectively build a structure far beyond the capabilities of individuals, like the bees. As a group, we were able to construct a cohesive structure that conformed to its surroundings— but remained organic structure.
