Dear Parents. We hope you had a lovely bank holiday weekend. If you are anything like me the novelty of home schooling wore off many weeks ago and you dread Mondays for this reason! For those of you feeling like me I promised myself I would give you less activities so as not to overwhelm you but sorry I failed! There are just so many lovely activities that can be linked with Eric Carle stories and these just touch the surface. PLEASE, please, please just pick what interests your child or what you feel they need most. You are all doing so many other valuable activities with your children that do not link to the plans but are so important for their development e.g. throwing and catching a ball, kids yoga, baking, preparing meals, digging in the garden, caring for animals, etc. It is wonderful to see. I try to vary the phonics so that there are some phase 3, 4 and 5 tasks. SOME children are definitely not yet confident enough to move on to phase 5 (the new digraphs for this week aw, ew, ue). They need to please practise phase 3 (and 4) sounds otherwise they will lose confidence. It is much better for a child to master something securely than be pushed on before they are ready. Twinkl, espresso, phonics play, Reading Eggs, Alphablock videos all offer a wide selection of phase 3 activities. However by simply practising the single letters and digraphs we had taught at school (orange bordered letter cards from packs we gave you before Easter) and a few tricky words new each week you would really help your child. For those of you with two or more children at our school I am sure you will be pleased to learn that as of next week the creative/super learning type activities that we plan will have the same theme across the whole school and Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 will be set the same tasks. YOU DO NOT NEED A PRINTER OR TO REGULARLY USE THE INTERNET TO TEACH YOUR CHILD FROM THESE SLIDES however there are recommended website links. More educational activities/sheets to supplement these Powerpoints (or do instead if they are better for you or your child) have been added to the documents section on Tapestry, especially for maths.
The text in red is for your information. You DO NOT need to read this to your child. The text in pink are suggested extension activities if you feel your child would like more work to do or they are achieving the set tasks quickly and easily and therefore need stretching.
Please remember we are all on hand to help you. Just add an observation to your child's Tapestry journal, that way ONLY staff will see what you write, and we can respond just to you. Thank you and well done for doing so amazingly with homeschooling. Best wishes from Mrs Rose, Mrs Batty and all of the EYFS team.
