Governors ( Note I have removed 2 of the 3 previous hyperlinks to ‘Structure’ and to ‘Members’’ and have this new link to the document which I will mail separately) Local Governing Body (LGB) Members & Responsibilites The Local Governing Body acts in conjunction with and is answerable to the Board of Trustees of the Academy, SAST (Sherborne Area Schools Trust ) of which we became a founding member in June 2017. It is accountable for maximising its effectiveness in three core strategic functions: • Ensuring clarity of vision, ethos and strategic direction for the school; • Holding the Headteacher to account for the educational performance of the school and its pupils, and the performance of staff; and •
Monitoring the financial performance of the school and making sure its money is well spent.
The Governors will: •
Have direct involvement in the continuing development the School

Focus on the School’s educational performance and agree future targets
•
Propose the school budget and review spend and value for money
•
Be assured of (and assist where appropriate) the meaningful and effective engagement of the School with parents, staff and the wider community
•
Contribute to school activities
•
Act as a critical friend
All your Governors are unpaid volunteers. We’re not here to interfere in the detailed day-to-day running of the school, nor are we expected to act as education advisors. What we do all have, however, is a shared interest, passion and commitment to the well-being and efficient running of our school, its future development and, especially in the successful development and progress of the children through their primary education years. We all live locally, and between us possess a great range of individual skills. We have attended courses on wide range of issues. In addition to serving on the Governing Body’s various focus groups, we help on such occasions as the sports days, accompanying school trips and parents evenings. One of our most enjoyable jobs is to visit the classrooms where we see the teachers and children in action. This is a fundamental part of being a Governor. Roy Towndrow
