Starting a new school? Reception Intake - September 2020 Applications are now being accepted online for new reception children. The deadlines and details on how to apply for each are listed below: Reception pupils starting School in September 2020 closing date Wednesday 15th January 2020 https://www.dorsetcouncil.gov.uk/education-and-training/schools-and-learning/apply-for-a-schoolplace/starting-school-for-the-first-time.aspx Christmas at Sherborne Primary What a brilliant time we have had at Sherborne Primary this Christmas! (please see our small picture gallery). Firstly, I wish to especially thank Mrs Beatson & Miss Durrant for leading our amazing Christmas Carol Concert within Sherborne Abbey. It was a magical evening that was greatly supported by our families and friends. Thank you to Mrs Maskew & Mrs Rose and all the staff in the Reception classes for their hard work in making the nativity performance of ‘The Bossy King!’ a success. Our Reception children were fantastic! I would also like to thank Mrs Clarke and our fantastic school choir who performed at many events during the holiday season including West Abbey Care Home in Yeovil and The Christmas Tree Festival within the Methodist Church, Sherborne. Mrs Clarke and our Choir, also hosted a charity concert within our school hall for the ‘Well Child’ Charity, raising a staggering £282! Supporting charities was an important part of Christmas within our school. Our School Council, led by Mrs Maskew, organised Christmas Hampers for the excellent local charity - Sherborne Food Bank. The School Council also raised an amazing £432 for Children In Need. We also supported Julia’s House Children’s Hospice Charity with kind donations after our Christmas Carol Service with the Abbey which total £175 (with an additional £175 going towards new books for school). In addition, we raised £199 for Save The Children from our Christmas Jumper Day. We would like to say a huge thank you as none of the above would be possible without the support and generosity of our parents and carers. Finally our Year 6 Choir performed in Christmas Concerts to The Hayes Residential Home, Abbey View Care Home & The Sheilings.

PTA Family Bingo Evening The PTA will be hosting a Family Bingo Evening on Friday 7th February from 5pm. Please come along and support this fun, family friendly event! Hot School Meals Taster Day Thursday 16th January 2020 As you may be aware, all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2 are entitled to a free hot meal at lunchtime. We are holding a taster day on Thursday 16th January and hot school meals will be ordered for all children in Reception, Year 1 and Year 2. If you book a meal on line with our provider Chartwells, then your child will receive the meal you have chosen, all other children will be provided with the very popular Roast Turkey with gravy. There will be no facility to change the meal provided. You do not need to provide a packed lunch for any children in Year Reception, 1 or 2, on Thursday 16th January, however any siblings in KS2 normal arrangements will apply. I hope your children will enjoy the experience of sharing a hot meal together at school and if you would like your child to receive hot school meals in the future please visit https://dorset.mealselector.co.uk/ to register . Reporting Absence Parents are reminded to report their child’s absence to the school office by 9:00am, either by calling the office on 01935 812619 or please drop by the school office in person. Please do not report absence through Class Dojo. School Nurse Drop in Session The School Nurse will be running a Drop in Session on Monday 27th January at 2:45pm. The school nurse can offer advice and support on things such as bedwetting, sleeping, and behaviour. If you would like to see the school nurse, please come by the office to book an appointment. SCAPA We are very pleased to announce that due to the high demand for SCAPA (Breakfast and After-School Childcare), we have adjusted our start time in the morning to open at 7:45am. This will also now happen during our Holiday Clubs (starting February half-term). To ensure that we can provide appropriate staffing we will ONLY be accepting online bookings from now on (please inquire at the school office if you require any support with using our online system). School Gates We would like to remind parents and carers of our gate opening times: The front gates will be open during the morning school run and will close at 9:05am. The gates will then reopen at 3:00pm for the afternoon school run and will remain open until 4:40pm for collection from after school clubs. On Fridays the gates will open at 2:30pm for the parent’s assembly. Please do not arrive

before these times or queue for the gates to open. The entrance to the school needs to be kept clear at all times, in case of an emergency. Please find a space in the car park and do not double park behind cars. We thank you in advance for your cooperation. Potential School Closure in Extreme Weather (This time of year!) The school has only closed a few times during the history of the school, each time due to heavy snowfall and linked to amount of safe staffing available to keep our pupils safe. The advice is that the school will open if at all possible but that if there is a snowfall… - Children arrive as usual at school at 8.45. - Children are properly clothed – Wellingtons, coats, gloves, hats (all named please). - Contact numbers are current. If the school closes during the day, parents will be contacted first (school text system) – children may be sent to “safe” (friends’) house(s) etc by agreement. - No child will be sent home without a safe arrangement being in place. - Parents of the youngest children may choose to keep their children at home if they feel this is appropriate. - No bicycles/scooters etc are to be brought to school. - In case Chartwells are unable to provide hot meals, please send your child to school with a packed lunch. - When the decision is made to close the School a text message will be sent to all parents as early as possible on the day. This will also be placed on the front page of our web-site & our Facebook Page. Sickness & Cross Infection Just a brief reminder that any children with diarrhoea and/or vomiting must be kept away from school for 48 hours (2 days) after their symptoms have gone. This helps prevent the spread of any spread of the virus. Clubs for the Spring Term 2020 You should have received a list of the new extra-curricular clubs available to our pupils during the Spring Term 2020. All clubs will start week commencing 13th January until Friday 27th March. However, selected clubs will not run on our parent consultation evenings on 17th March and 19th March.

.Remembrance at Sherborne Primary Finally we are really proud of the £209 raised for the Poppy Appeal in November. A special thank you to Lt. Phil Hedgecox and Sergeant Oliver Falbo to kindly supporting our Remembrance Service & providing an excellent talk to our Year 6 children afterwards DATES FOR YOUR DIARY – Spring Term 2020 As known at the time of printing
