Paragraphs are a collection of sentences. They are used in writing to introduce new sections of a story, characters, ideas or pieces of information.

Homophones are words that sound the same but have different meanings. They also have different spellings like here and hear or see and sea.

Recap your knowledge of homophones – these words can be tricky!

Activity Activity

Imagine you see an advert to be an astronaut and write an application letter. Can you come up with a title for the topic or main idea of each paragraph? Write a simple title for each paragraph, for example, All about my qualifications. Top Tip! Remember paragraphs are useful to you as the writer, as well as the reader. They help you to organise your ideas and can make your writing flow better, so it is easier to read.

Big Write - for the whole week. Please finish this story using your best writing possible. Moments earlier, she had been standing in her classroom holding the tiny port-key up in her hand, waiting for the magic to happen. With a flash and a puff of smoke they had vanished into thin air. The port-key had taken them to some strange places before, but never to a jungle. The problem with port-keys is that you never quite know where you’re going to end up! They gazed around them and took in their surroundings; the stifling heat and cacophony of jungle noises put the children on edge - they would have to be exceptionally brave on this particular adventure...
