DIRECTOR’S NOTE: Ever since I was a little girl, The Sound of Music was a favorite of mine to watch. The movie created such memorable moments: the opening Julie Andrews spin, the "Lonely Goatherd" puppet show, and the dancing in the gazebo during "Sixteen Going on Seventeen". The Sound of Music is a favorite of so many because it hits home for all audiences. It tells the story of Love, Family, and Strength. The show ends with the beginning of a difficult journey for the Von Trapps. We are left to our imagination of what happens to them. With Maria reconnecting this broken family, we hope this helps them get to where they need to go. Personally, I believe that together they can face a long journey ahead. What I love about Theatre is that it gives us a taste of escapism that helps us feel motivated by the end. I hope you leave feeling like you, too, can face any journey ahead. I am so proud of the work the students have put in. I know we all were able to feel that we are a part of something bigger than us in this production. When we were able to visit senior living facilities to share this show, we saw the magic of music. Residents were singing as loud as they could with us, tears in their eyes. Afterwards, they shared their stories with us. We were able to see how much the show meant to them. It truly has been a pleasure to be a part of this production with these students. I thank them for their openness and courage throughout the rehearsal process. I thank Jill Schurman for her continued support. Finally, I would like to thank my parents for their love and support, and for introducing me to The Sound of Music in the first place.

SHA Gives Back! This past September, the cast of The Sound of Music was able to visit four different nursing facilities. Service is one of the four core values of Sacred Heart Schools, and the students were able to see the magic of Theatre and Music. Together in one voice, the residents and the cast sang classics like, "Do-Re-Mi", "My Favorite Things", and "Climb Ev'ry Mountain." This rewarding experience ended in smiles, tears, and shared memories. If you would like the cast to visit your facility for the next show, please email the director at mvanegas@shslou.org.
