MacLeod announces that Rowan’s Law will be going national By Charlie Senack

Even during a global COVID-19 health pandemic, the third Rowan’s Law Day was recognized in Barrhaven. On Friday, September 25, Nepean MPP Lisa MacLeod, who is also the minister of tourism, culture and sport, announced Rowan’s Stringers legacy would be going national. “In October at our next federal-provincial territorial meetings Ontario will be leading a discussion on concussion awareness for the rest of Canada,” said MacLeod. “At the moment, Ontario is the only jurisdiction in Canada to have concussion legislation, although every jurisdiction in the United States

does,” she added. “We need to do better and we are excited to lead this discussion as a province.” Rowan’s Law was first introduced as a private member’s bill by MacLeod when she was still in opposition. It gained support from all three main political parties and was unanimously passed in March 2018. ‘Rowan’s Law Day’, is now held on the third Wednesday of every September. It was started in 2018 as a way to remember Rowan Stringer, a Barrhaven teen who died in the spring of 2013 after suffering three concussions in six days — all while playing rugby.
