ANNOUNCING THE 2020-2021 SEASON
THE MERRY WIDOW
THE GRAND TOUR
A MESSAGE
OF HOPE dear opera friends, as i write this letter it is difficult to know how long the current and unsettling situation will last. we at toledo opera remain cautious about predicting what the world will look like six months from now. for the time being, we remain optimistic and focused on preparing for our 2020-2021 opera season. in the spring, we will have a greater need than ever for the unparalleled experience of live opera. so, we have chosen to announce our season at this time. over the course of 62 years, toledo opera has weathered many storms. i have every confidence that, together with our audience members’ continued support and encouragement, we will weather this one too. the best way to support us at this time is to stay healthy and to purchase your tickets soon with the faith and hope that the storm will pass again. my very best to each of you, suzanne rorick executive director

just in time for valentine’s day! the merry widow dances into our hearts with its beautiful melodies and witty storyline. hanna glawari is a vastly wealthy young widow from the small and poverty-stricken balkan province of pontevedro. ambassador baron zeta is anxious that when hanna re-marries, it is to a pontevedrian and not a frenchman, to keep her money in the country and save them all from ruin. j. ernest green conducts this bubbly delight while jamie offenbach and james m. norman bring the light-hearted comedy to life. starring as the merry widow is alyson cambridge (toledo opera’s carmen) and bgsu voice professor keith phares as count danilo. performed in english with english supertitles.
