COME SEE WHAT OPERA CAN DO. Opera has a well-earned reputation for grandeur. Many of the best-known operas feature epic stories, larger-than-life characters, and iconic displays of vocal prowess. Grand opera achieves a kind of dramatic intensity unlike any other art form, and it’s one of the things that keeps us coming back year after year. Yet grandeur is only one part of what gives opera its enduring hold over our imaginations. The richness of our tradition also lies in its ability to join spectacle with tenderness; passion with playfulness; and timelessness with contemporary relevance. Opera offers a versatile emotional language, capable of telling stories that span the rich gamut of human experience. This year, we’re showcasing the breadth of what opera can do. Blue — available as a special subscription add-on before the season begins — provides a powerful lens on pressing contemporary issues. Our double bill of shorter works and our production of The Merry Widow feature intimate character studies and richly detailed social worlds; together, they balance pathos with humor and ironic wit. In each performance, you’ll find the world-class music you’ve come to expect from Toledo Opera. Above all, this season celebrates opera’s ability to bring us together. We conclude with a grand choral showcase, curated especially for the greater Toledo community and performed by a chorus of Toledo-area residents. It’s a rare opportunity to hear some of the most iconic choruses in the repertoire in one evening, and it’s our way of shining the spotlight on what makes it all possible: you, our audiences. This season, we’re thrilled to show you what opera can do. We hope you’ll join us. Suzanne Rorick Executive Director
