Register Your URL If you haven’t yet selected a URL, here are some tips for doing so: TIP (CHECK THOSE TO EXPLORE)
Try to get one URL with your company name completely spelled out so
that when users search for your company, they’ll find you. Search engines look at your URL first, so make sure that searchers can find you when they search by your company name – don’t just use an acronym or abbreviation that they won’t necessarily find. You can register multiple URLs and direct the shorter URLs (for example, a short version for email) to the longer site URL (full company name). If you absolutely can’t get your company or product name spelled out at least partially, try to put it into a phrase along with a keyword or verb.
NOTES
Check with one of the domain name registrars (www.register.com, www.mydomain.com, www.godaddy.com) for availability. You may purchase an available name for a given period of time, with the option to renew it afterward. For most businesses, the .com ending is the most preferable. If your selection isn’t available in .com form, but you select it in a .org, .tv or other less popular ending, note the company that owns the .com and research them for potential trademark conflicts. [Naming can help] Note that almost all nouns with a .com ending are taken. There are other options for your web address, so be creative if your name is taken. Some suggestions for alternate use: IDEA Add “inc” or “online” or “us” to the end Add a descriptive term (example is “solutions”) Use a hypen Use your slogan instead of your name
USE
You many want to purchase your URL with as many endings as possible, to avoid having someone else purchase them and cause confusion in the marketplace.
