JOANA MOREIRA PORTFOLIO
/ BIO I was born in Porto in the north of Portugal, 1993. Throughout my education I had great support from my family who guided my talents towards a more rewarding future. As a result I developed a great interest for the arts and attended a renowned school (Escola ArtĂstica Soares dos Reis) in Porto and it was here that my abilities for Product Design appeared. Today I am now a qualified Industrial Designer with a Degree in Product Design from ESAD (Escola Superior de Artes e Design) graduated in 2014 (average A) and currently studying for a Masters in Product Design, due to graduate in 2016. In addition to my programed studies I have also participated in international design workshops in Europe and China: Lithuania - Vilnius College of Design, Vilnius. China - Central Academy of fine Arts, Beijing. Both workshops were amazing experiences and gave me the opportunity to understand design in other cultures. I enjoy challengers and I strongly believe in staying actual and current in my perspective about design and how it is used in industry. I am motivated and try with all my means to overcome obstacles to achieve my goals and the requirements of all the projects I am involved. Amongst my many interested in design, reading, films and culture, I am also completely passionate about dance, ballet.

02 TUPPER 55 Project Graduation 2013 UC Project III Modeling in Alias Automotive In this project, the proposed work consisted in selecting an existing brand in the market, and creating a product that did not belong to the brand but through language that would fit in. In this case I chose the Tupperware Brand.
/ RESEARCH
After an intensive study about the brand and their products, I concluded there existe a very strong language and I also proved the strategy of selling a product influenced a lot the way of people thinking on it, the same happens with the gadgets, and Tupperware has always had a certain sensibility in creating new ways to present the value of your brand to housewifes.
With the new trend of taking selfies I decided to design a camera, and obviously a modular one. Starting then I did an intensive research about textures, materials, colours, shapes, characteristics that are present on this moodboard.

ABOUT The new modular camera Tupperware aims to challenge all who enjoy photography in a fun and innovative way. The fact that it is water resistant and easy to clean, makes it perfect for your kitchen as well for any other environment. The modular feature lets you use it in different ways, possibly putting the lens in place and control it from another via the touch screen. You can also register their time printing your photos instantly. You just found your new company to the next Tupperware Party.

/ SKETCHES
After doing an analysis of what existed in the market, set to create a stylish new line, but at the same time was adapted to everyday use, ie to offer the casual and comfort shoes that some do not. I decided to focus on me and espadrilles suede shoes as influences and adapt them to the

04 GEGEN Academic Project 2013 UC Project II - Competition “Shapes of Dark Clay” ESAD, Matosinhos Modeling in Rhinoceros Developed in partnership with Célia Costa This project was developed as part of a competition organized by the School of Art & Design, Matosinhos. The project was one of the finalists that was selected for prototyping.
ALL ART IS A PROBLEM OF BALANCE BETWEEN OPPOSING BY CESARE PAVENSE
ABOUT We intended to find the origin and essence of simple pieces of black clay, but end up being reflected today in an opposite way. That is, the Potters have been a rich and abundant class, but are now poor and almost non-existent with a different but never ceasing to be equal to all others culture. With the salt and the sugar it is the same, both with the same color but with different characteristics and qualities, having been somewhat more refined sugar instead of salt, which had access to anyone. With this concept the essential part of a “game of opposites between rich/poor, rough/fine, large/ small, these oppositions then served to create one Salt and Sugar Bowl, leaving the common or usual.
As for the materials Black Clay, was already preselected, it is a crude material, and worked in a traditional way, and we choose a porcelain that in total opposition is sleek, glazed, industrial and we have a sense of how the piece will stand, while the black clay is not already at all foreseeable. We intend to show clearly all the rough parts, textures and reliefs created by the
potter himself, making each unique and special touch with the part. The reliefs present in the piece of black clay emerged from an observation of tra- ditional designs, leaves and flowers, This was inspired by the patterns of William Morris, art quite naturalistic.

05 PEDRA SOBRE PEDRA Project 2015 Craft Design Modeling in SolidWorks Development in partnership with Hugo Cardoso, and coordination of Jo達o Cruz This project was developed under a project organized by Axtur, where the aim was to create a piece related to the Schist Villages, located on Portugal, in order to generate tourism. The final piece assured presence in Eunique Exhibition in may 2015, on Germany.
/ TERRITORY SCHIST VILLAGE
/ TERRITORY CERDEIRA
“Here lies the tranquility! Browsing the village is a physical and sensory exercise. At each step there is an alcove, an alley, an element that is not known whether there was placed by man or by nature. There is no dissonance. There is the sound of tranquility”.
This is the Kerstin’s Village, extremely quiet and friendly person who introduced us to the Cerdeira village and the xanfana (portuguese recipe).
/ PROJECT CONCEPT
For this project we decided to do a Zoom in everything we saw from the landscapes to the objects. Our thought is easily explained by a factor of simplicity of Cerdeira, and the practical part that everything in our daily lives must have, and how good we are and Portugueses after the first contact with the village, and with the xanfana, all project grew around this idea.

ABOUT KITCHEN SET Gastronomy is the aggregator subject of material and immaterial culture, generat- ing rich and complex relationships in the sustainable transformation of natural re- sources, as the highest representation of the culture of knowhow. From the intertwined dance of the mountains in the landscape to the ac- commodated roofs on the slopes of Cerdeira , from the magnificent schist walls to the structure of this magmatic rock formed by the compression of thin layers of clays; a word that is almost a gesture came, a way of doing, “ Stacking “, as if stacking objects, in a playful , ex- perimental or constructive way, because stack is inherently human . Based on this our part used funds from local materials such as wood, dark clay, porcelain and shale, but worked by the best craftsmen in the area. Because the idea was to create a piece of Craft Design in order to raise the Schist Villages and the man is dedicated to agriculture.

07 ZEEN Project Graduation 2012 UC Project II GlammFire Contest “Design of bioethanol decorative fireplaces 1st Edition Modeling Solid Works The proposal for this project was the creation of a bioethanol fireplace, designed for indoor and outdoor.
ABOUT My inspiration came from Zen Gardens I wanted to create a comfortable subject, and that could create, give balance to something. In this case, the idea is that anyone can create their own balance, its own harmony - through modules.
cluster of dark cork optional protective glass
clear cluster od cork and recycled rubber optional protective glass
ADAPT IT TO YOU CREATE YOUR ENVIRONMENT
Designed to fit any outdoor. Inspired by the harmony of zen stones, ZEEN, with its ecological and organic design, and through its modules, provides a new experience from their involvement with nature.
The idea of fireplace being created by modules arose from the idea of adapting the house of anyone, because both can get all the modules, how can we get only three or even only the burner to put up a simple table. We can also play with the arrangement there as modules respond to various solutions in different situations. The emotional and sentimental feelings that I put in the fireplace “Feel ZEEN, is not only
inspired by zen objects, but because it can be considered one. Nowadays, with this type of objects people are more likely to identify themselves with objects inside this concept because what is needed today is exactly that easy, you need to have a balanced state of mind, to feel well with ourselves.

PACKAGING DESIGN
08 MEL ROSMANINHO Academic Project 2014 UC Packaging Graphics in Adobe Illustrator In this project, we had to develop a package for three jars of honey that could be of the same type or not. For this project jam jars were used.
ABOUT I wanted to combine this package to golden honey, because honey is given to us by nature, so it is already a gem. But is increasingly combined with gourmet products, and these two colors black and golden give the necessary glamor to the packaging. In contrast to this glamor thread was used to show the home made side. The package allows you to see the top of the bottle, where we have a label identifying the product, and on bottom we can see the honey, as it is a package for three jars, the medium jar is completely covered.
The design of the packaging emphasizes the idea that honey is a golden product, glamorous. The element that I used was the hexagon that leads immediately to the idea of honey. On the packaging I decided to create a gradient in order to create a connection between all vials. As for the labels they have the same language of the exterior packaging, always with the idea of shine and that this honey is a gourmet product. With this package I intended to create different visual effects from gradients. The label was an addition, to help complete the package and allows us, when the package is closed, to know what this product contains. My addition was the perfect recommendation combinations that can further encourage a person to want this product.

09 CASTANHAS DE OVOS Academic Project 2014 UC Packaging Graphics in Adobe Illustrator The purpose of this proposal was to create a gourmet packaging for a traditional sweet. In my case the traditional sweet were Egg Chestnuts, tipycal of Arouca.
As for the graphics I decided to use these colors to make it sober and elegant, a more precise gourmet packaging. Through the use of standard development, we have a direct link to the product - shape and ingredients -. Bearing in mind the original packaging, put a small description on the production and product site.

ABOUT This package as mentioned earlier, was designed for the Egg Chestnuts. The idea is to enhance the site through the enhancement of the product. Giving it a new life through the package, putting it on a different level. With an elegant and dynamic form of packaging we combine the past with the present. From the idea of a half-dozen, the package refers to the past, but through the triangles and their way of opening refers to the now. Of course the graphics further enhances the product, for the fact that each chestnut have there space makes it unique and translates and idea of a gourmet product.

AND PRACTICAL SKILLS
DESIGN THINKING
/ THINKING These are some projects where the different tools I acquired were applied. For me the Design Thinking is an important tool for the development of a project to be carried out more quickly, because techniques such as mind map, map of personas, moodboards, allow us to define the best options.
3D MODELING
/ MODELING The 3D modeling is a support tool, extremely important from my point of view, it can enhance all our work, due to give us a real picture of how the object can be. It is a tool which can operate not only the molding part as well as rendering that is too strong complement for modeling and for our work.
The RTL 1000, continues the great traditions of this high-performance camera.
/ REAL OBJECT
SKETCHING
/ SKETCHING The Sketching technique is a tool that opens doors to creativity, why not put the limits. For our thought is immediately transcribed to paper, although nowadays for this technique is possible to use programs that give us another kind of language. Present some exercises developed during the UC Sketching with Jeremy Aston.
