timon James Dyson Award 2017
Timon is a device which encourages the displacements on foot, based on the user’s momentary desires, disconnecting them from distractions and connecting them with the environment along the way. The device connects to a pedestrian’s smartphone via Bluetooth. They set up a destination before departing using the app. Once their destination is selected, they need to introduce three ‘tags’ or relevant words related to their situation and then put their smartphone away. In this way, users can get a customized shift depending on their mood at every moment. Timon just shows you the direction, leaving you to decide which turns to make.

It has a magnetometer, accelerometer and gyroscope to constantly recalculate a walker’s position, allowing the device to update constantly to keep pointing in the right direction. A Bluetooth receiver is embedded in the device to communicate with the Timon app on a pedestrian’s iPhone or Android device making use of the GPS in the smartphone.

Ghost nets are fishing nets that have been abandoned in the ocean by fishermen. They often entangle cetacea before breaking into thousands of pieces and becoming part of the plastic soup floating in our oceans. Remora is a system geared towards industrial fishing that helps fishermen to repair broken nets and helps NGO’s to find and retrieve ghost nets drifting in the sea. The RFIDS tags are unobtrusive devices with printed electronics installed during the manufacturing of the net. The app provides information to understand incidents in the fishing gear and take actions to tackle the problem.

It is a hydrodynamic device that comes in safety orange, a colour used to make marine emergency equipment stand out in the sea. The app features high contrast colours in order to be legible in the sunlight of a boat deck as has been shown before. During all the process user-centered design methodologies were applied in order to identify and consequently solve the main issues that fisherman could experience during their daily voyages. On the right side there are some illustrations showing some steps of the process: interviews, user journey maps or shape tests among others.

vanpack Packaging & Ecomerce
This project consisted of a cardboard packaging for E-comerce customers. Vanpack was developed jointly with Saicapack, a Spanish company focused on sustainable solutions for paper and board packaging. The brief brought by Saicapack was clear and concise: I had to create a packaging by using as little material as possible and capable of resisting impacts during its transportation. Besides, it had to provide a system that prevents robbery or manipulation during its delivery process. Vanpack is committed to the environment not just because of its material optimization, but also because none of its parts have acrylics, paints or polluting additives. Clothes are introduced by rolling them up in order to take advantage of all the space available inside the box.

Lighting & Recycling
As simple as possible. Inspired by raindrops, following an organic and minimalist shape it is intended to be on large deskstops, in studios or even wide open spaces. The project was born because of the necessity of reusing old PVC pipes, which actually are quite complicated to recycle.

Get a lamp for just 14 Euros. Drop is easily fabricated, which directly affects its price. It has just a few components: pvc pipe translucent body, cable, led strip, and an electricity transformer. The body is bent by heat, using carved wooden molds. Once done, a hole is made in the bottom allowing the cable with the led strip to enter. Finally the lighting is covered with a piece of tape, and the lamp is painted.

Quicky Interaction Design
The challenge of this two-month-project was to use Augmented reality as a tool for re-thinking an actual product or system. I identified the opportunity in re-designing the assembly process of Ikea furniture, as they are designed so that customers can assemble them by themselves at home in order to save money, time and avoid some stressful situations.

Once finished, scan the barcode placed on the product packaging to get the specific assembly instructions. A confirmation of your product specifications will appear with some relevant details about your purchase. Numbered stickers(1) are placed on each piece. 3D animated illustrations(2) show specific instructions. By scanning them one by one a visual and audio guidance(3) will appear. Completed steps are shown graphically in a bar(4).

It a system that combines two functions. It allows you to transport the equipment necessary to practice sea sports in an anti-theft container, and also is conected with your watch by radio frequence and can be activated in case of emergency to alert emergency services and give them your location. It is a solution capable of linking water emergencies and onshore rescue services. It was created from the market needs, and developed according to customer requirements to the working prototype stage.
