FIRST COMMUNION MEETING
LENTEN REGULATIONS
Wednesday, February 25 6:30PM - in the Church
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence. This means that we do not eat meat and we have only one full meal. The other Fridays of the season of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The obligation to abstain from meat binds Catholics 14 years of age and older. The obligation to fast, limiting oneself to one full meal and two lighter meals in the course of the day, binds Catholics from the age of 18 to 59. Those who are younger or older may freely embrace these disciplines. But Lenten disciplines should never endanger your health. It is obvious that abstaining from meat is meaningless for vegetarians, who must choose some other form of abstinence. It is equally obvious that replacing meat with a gourmet seafood meal is not in keeping with the spirit of Lent.
This meeting is for all parents/guardians whose children are entering the 2nd grade in September with an expecting to receive their first Communion at Mary, Mother of Jesus Church in 2016 and/or children who are going into the 1st grade in September with an expectation of receiving their first Communion in 2017.
MARDI GRAS PARADE We are happy to announce that our parish’s Mardi Gras float won 3rd place. Thanks to all who donated items or helped decorate, especially Diane Fuqua, TLC (town liaison committee) chair, and Buddy Bess for the use of his boat for our float.
THANK YOU Sayes Office Supply generously donated a copy machine for our music ministry. It has already proven beneficial in giving us last minute copies.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR GENEROSITY!
STEWARDSHIP NOTE “Brothers and sisters, whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do everything for the glory of God.” (I Corinthians 10:31) Do a quick check of your priorities. Where does God rank in that list? If He’s not first, you have some work to do. Putting God first in everything helps develop the attitude of “I am grateful for the gifts God gave me” instead of “I want more.” For most people gratitude leads to generosity.
2015 ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL Our Goal: $11,050.00 Stewardship involves more than just the gift we bring to the altar. In today’s second reading, St. Paul urges the Corinthians to “do all for the glory of God.” If we follow that advice in everything we do, we cannot help but be good stewards! Do we ask ourselves are we imitators of Christ by giving freely of ourselves - our time, talent and financial resources? Are our gifts to our parish acceptable? Are our gifts to the local Church through the Annual Diocesan Appeal acceptable?
