5:00PM - 7:00PM $8.00 per plate - Dine In or Take Out

Tuesday, February 23rd 6:30PM in Cumella Hall - Youth Center The American Cancer Society sponsors an annual fundraiser: “Relay for Life”. This year it will be held on Friday, April 29th. Most of us have been affected by this disease. This year our parish is sponsoring a team to participate in the relay. Please join us at this planning meeting.

There are more than 40 days between Ash Wednesday and Easter. How do we count the “forty days” of Lent? Do we count Sundays? Yes, we “count” the Sundays! These days and their accompanying readings are vitally important to our understanding and celebration of the season of Lent. There is an ancient practice of not fasting on Sundays and solemnities (Tertullian; canon 1251). First, the Sacred Triduum is not part of Lent. Lent ends on Holy Thursday afternoon. (In fact, Holy Week is not a full “week” at all.) Second, Ash Wednesday and the Thursday, Friday, and Saturday that follow it are traditionally called the “Porch of Lent.” The readings on these four days are training us to enter into the penitential season of Lent. They provide lessons on how to better pray, fast, and give alms. While Lent runs from Ash Wednesday to Holy Thursday, this method of counting will make obvious the traditional “forty days.” Lent is a preparation for Easter – both for the Elect, who are preparing for the sacraments of initiation, and for the faithful, through reminders of their own baptism and through penitential practices.

Annual Diocesan Appeal Jesus didn’t do it alone. He called disciples to assist him in his mission. Jesus challenged and supported his disciples - at times gently chiding them, or reaching out a hand to help, and at times demanding a lot from them. Our Lord walks with us but he also challenges us to be good disciples by supporting the universal Church. Do we ask ourselves are we imitators of Christ y giving freely of ourselves - our time, talent and financial resources? Are our gifts to our parish acceptable? Are our gifts to the local Church through the Annual Diocesan Appeal acceptable?

Stewardship Note In today’s second reading we learn that one of Saint Paul’s principles of Christian living is to watch and imitate other followers of Christ. There is a pattern for Christian living that Saint Paul wants others to discover and then imitate. This pattern includes a life of prayer, selflessness, sacrifice, and caring for others, including our family of faith. Good stewards choose their friends wisely. They cultivate friendships with other Christian stewards, spend time with them, observe how they live, ask questions about their faith and learn from them. Who are your friends? Are they good stewards of their faith?
