Annual Diocesan Appeal The waters of Baptism make us part of the new covenant in Christ. But the bishop’s pastoral letter on stewardship reminds us that “there is a fundamental obligation arising from the Sacrament of Baptism...that people place their gifts, their resources—their selves—at God’s service in and through the Church.” Prayerfully consider supporting your parish by weekly contribution and the diocesan church by contributing to the Annual Diocesan Appeal.

Parish Penance Service Monday, March 21, 2016 6:00PM Three priests will be available for individual confessions.

This sacrament should no longer be considered exclusively for the dying, as in “last rites”. It is to be celebrated by and for those whose health has been seriously impaired by illness or old age. Anyone may be anointed before surgery or an invasive test or medical procedure. Elderly people may be anointed if they have become notably weakened even though no serious illness is present. The sacrament may be repeated if the sick person recovers after being anointed and then again falls ill or if during the same illness the person’s condition becomes more serious. This is one more way that God imparts to each of us, and in particular at this time to the seriously ill and elderly his endless love and grace.

Jubilee Year Of Mercy Hymn We will continue to sing this hymn as a meditation following Communion at all sung weekend Masses. The translation of the Latin text is: Misericordes sicut Pater Be merciful as your father (is merciful) Inaeternum Misericordia eius His mercy endures forever 4

Stewardship Note In today’s Gospel Jesus offers his parable about last chances. The fig tree will have one last chance to bear fruit before it is cut down and destroyed. Good stewards realize that, like the fig tree, they are endowed with God-given gifts that are meant to “bear fruit” for God and neighbor. God has legitimate expectations of them. They also realize they do not know how much time they have left before the gardener returns for an accounting of their fruitfulness. How are we using our God-given gifts? How might we use our gifts to bear more fruit? The answer requires some urgency.
