LENTEN NEWS
FROM THE PASTOR
LENTEN REGULATIONS
In every preface to the Eucharistic Prayer, immediately before the Sanctus (Holy, Holy), the final word prayed is “acclaim”. The Webster Dictionary defines acclaim as “to praise (someone or something) in a very strong and enthusiastic way.” It comes from the Latin acclamare, literally, to shout at. Each time we pray these words at Mass let us be sure to acclaim the holiness, might, and power of our God.
The Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat. The obligation to abstain from meat binds Catholics 14 years of age and older. It is obvious that abstaining from meat is meaningless for vegetarians, who must choose some other form of abstinence. It is equally obvious that replacing meat with a gourmet seafood meal is not in keeping with the spirit of Lent.

Beginning this weekend we will be listing the number of envelopes included in the weekly collection. Additionally, the average identifiable gift, i.e. the collection total (not including loose cash) divided by the total number of those contributors. This allows each of us to personally measure our financial support of our parish.
If you know of anyone who should be included or removed, please contact Kathy at the Church office. You may also use a pew envelope for this purpose.
STEWARDSHIP NOTE SANCTUARY CANDLE BURNS THIS WEEK In loving memory of Laurie Ogaard by her family If you would like to have a loved one or special intention remembered by providing for the sanctuary candle, please call the office at 318487-9894 or email mmjwoodworth@att.net. The cost is $5.00 per candle.
If you are a victim or survivor - of sexual abuse by members of the Catholic clergy or representatives of the Catholic Church and you want to make a formal complaint of abuse to the diocese, arrange a personal meeting with the bishop or his representative, and/or to obtain support for the needs of the individual and families, call Ms Mary Girard, Victim Assistance Coordinator (318) 623-3804 or the Diocesan HOTLINE (318) 445-1427.
“You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything…” (Exodus 20:4) How many “gods” do you put before God? “Idols” do not always take the shape of physical things, things we can touch and feel. Those are easy to recognize. Many times they take the form of things we cannot touch and are much harder to spot pride, power, ego, comfort or health.
2015 ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL Our Goal: $11,050.00
We would also like to include the names of any active duty military for whom you would like us to pray. If you know any nursing home residents for whom you would like us to pray, please inform Kathy of their names.
