PARISH NEWS

St. Peregrine Icon
Recently, the menu for our Sunday morning coffee fellowship has changed. My initial intention two years ago was that it be more an opportunity for “fellowship” and less an opportunity for eating. Over time the menu continued to grow, and with it the budget. On average, the parish was spending $125-150 a week. Therefore, I asked Bobbie Long and Kathy Rachall to purchase the necessary coffee, doughnuts, etc., while still inviting members of the parish to set up, serve, and clean up. There is always the option of individual parishioners purchasing, at their expense, beyond what the parish provides. I hope that we can continue to share fellowship each Sunday over a cup of coffee, a glass of juice and a danish or doughnut.
An icon of St. Peregrine, patron saint of cancer patients and their caregivers, is on the left hand wall in the front of the church. It was donated by me in memory of my late father, Eugene and all those who have lost the valiant fight against cancer. Please use this icon as an image for prayer, and feel free to touch and/or kiss it according to tradition. We will bless this icon at the 10:30 Mass this Sunday.
Our bishop has asked me and the parish to provide one of our “future” priests, Mr. Derek Ducote, with a parish for his 5 month ministerial program directed by Notre Dame Seminary in New Orleans.

At the age of 22, I stepped out of formation in order to mature, grow in trust and better discern where the Lord calls me. I worked for a law firm in Baton Rouge for a year and taught for seven more, five of those seven years at Holy Savior Menard in Alexandria, 20008-2013. In early 2013, after growing in confidence that our Lord calls me to His ministerial priesthood, I re-applied with the Diocese of Alexandria and enrolled for graduate studies at Notre Dame Seminary. Stewardship Note In today’s first reading we encounter the Holy Spirit who at Pentecost came rushing in over Jesus’ followers like a powerful wind. It must have been a frightening experience for them. But their great acts of prophetic witness began when the Spirit drew them out of their “comfort zones.” Jesus said the Holy Spirit, like the wind, blows where it wills; into the lives of good stewards, empowering them to perform wondrous acts of healing, reconciliation and evangelization; encouraging them to proclaim the Gospel with boldness and confidence. All of that is a little beyond the comfort zone where most of us live our lives. This week, reflect on how the Holy Spirit may be calling you out of your personal comfort zone.
