CAPITAL CAMPAIGN UPDATE: I am pleased to report that we received permission this past week from the Diocesan Building Review Committee to solicit bids for our new Family Life Center. Our architects, Barron, Heinberg & Brocato, will be advertising for bids from contractors for the next several weeks. The next step will be to choose a contractor and, with the Bishop’s permission, break ground later this spring. As you know, our new parking lot across 21st Street is now ready for use, and the workers have begun construction on the second new lot between Madeline Street and the Life House. Thank you for your continued prayers, patience and support of our capital projects! – Father Dan WWWWWWW DEACON ORDINATIONS: Our diocese’s 15 candidates for the diaconate will be ordained on Saturdays, Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, at 10:00 A.M. at the Cathedral. Benny Broussard, Todd Marye and Michael Young of our parish will all be ordained on Feb. 4. Anyone is welcome to attend. A public reception will follow each ordination in Olinger Hall. Please pray for these men as the complete preparations for ordination. – Fr. Dan OUR MONTHLY SENIOR CITIZEN MASS will be celebrated this Wednesday, Jan. 18, at 2:00 P.M. in the Church. Please come pray with us for your personal needs and for the needs of our country. All are invited to the reception in the Madonna Room following Mass. AMICUS CLUB RODEO TO BENEFIT ST. MARY’S: The Amicus Club PRCA Rodeo will be held Friday and Saturday, Jan. 20-21 in the Rapides Parish Coliseum. The rodeo will be held at 7:30 P.M. on both nights and also at 2:00 P.M. on Saturday. Tickets are $10 per person; children under 12 get in free with a coupon from their school. All proceeds from the PRCA sanctioned event will benefit St. Mary’s Residential Training Facility. CONGRATULATIONS TO Merrilyn Norem, Kevin Viator and Charles “Chip” Perot, who were elected to our parish Pastoral Council. OLPS SCHOOL BULLDOG BYTES OLPS and Family Playhouse Present Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty” OLPS and Family Playhouse are producing their fifth annual OLPS school play, Disney’s “Sleeping Beauty.” Ninety-one students from kindergarten through sixth grade are bringing the crowd to their feet with applause. The hard work, commitment, and love among the children, parents and volunteers have made this year’s production another great success. Thank you all and see you again for next year’s show.
Intramural Basketball The annual OLPS Intramural Basketball season will bounce into action this week. OLPS students in grades 1-6 will play intramural games on Saturday mornings. The program is designed to teach the fundamentals of basketball and good sportsmanship and to let the players have fun. The season runs from Saturday, Jan. 21 through Saturday, Feb. 11. Stop by the OLPS gym on Saturday mornings and watch your favorite basketball player.
S.A.L.T. RETREATS: The dates for the S.A.L.T. Retreats for high school teens have been announced. OLPS YOUTH HIGH SCHOOL YOUTH BAND rehearses on Wednesdays from 4:00 to 5:00 P.M. The band is open to anyone in ninth through twelfth grades. Come join us in the Lourdes Room.
