TRUNK OR TREAT: Join the OLPS Parish and Family Life Commission for an afternoon of safe and fun trick or treating.

“Trunk or Treat” is scheduled for Sunday, Oct. 30 from 3:00 to 5:00 P.M. in the church parking lot. There will be hot dogs, music, face painting, and more! Bring a carved or decorated pumpkin and enter in the contest to win a prize. A prize will also be given for the best decorated vehicle trunk. All families participating in the event should have their vehicle parked and be ready to distribute candy/treats by 2:30 P.M. If you would like to distribute candy from the trunk of your car, please contact Stacey Besselman at besselman_s@promptsuccor.org.

WWWWWWW OUR LADY OF PROMPT SUCCOR SCHOOL has opened its waiting list for the 2012-2013 school year. Parents who do not have any children at OLPS School and who wish to enroll their child(ren) for the next school year may call the school office at 487-1862. A pre-school student must be three years old by the first day of school to be eligible to attend. A prekindergarten student must be four years old by September 30 to be eligible to attend.

ALL SOULS MEMORIAL: The names of our deceased loved ones will be placed on the altar to be remembered at all Masses during the month of November. There are envelopes placed at each entrance to the church for your convenience. Please place them in the collection basket or return them to the church office.

PARISH MEMORIAL MASS: A parish Memorial Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 4:00 P.M. for all members of our parish family who have died since November 2010. All those who have had a family member die within the last year are especially invited. We encourage all parishioners to attend and remember our deceased loved ones.

NEW ROMAN MISSAL: OLPS Spirituality and Education Commission is sponsoring a seminar on Wednesday. Nov. 2 concerning the changes in the prayers of the Mass which will take place beginning Nov. 27 with the use of the new translation of the Roman Missal. The session will begin at 6:30 P.M. in the church and feature some of the PowerPoint slides used by Sister Marilyn Vessallo, CSJ, when she presented to our parish last month. Commission member Robbie LaBorde will walk us through the slides and help us understand the reasons for and impact of these changes. The seminar will be finished by 7:30 P.M. in time for students to be picked up from CCD and Junior High Youth Group. – Father Dan

ALEXANDRIA MEMORIAL GARDENS will hold its annual All Saints Day Mass on Monday, Oct. 31 at 4:00 P.M. Everyone is welcome to attend.

OLPS SCHOOL BULLDOG BYTES THIRD GRADE PUMPKINS: On Wednesday, Oct. 26, OLPS third grade students will display hand-crafted, decorative pumpkins and narrative stories to accompany the pumpkins as part of their Language Arts lessons. The pumpkins can be painted, constructed, and embellished but not carved and will be judged in several categories such as sports, look-a-likes, scariest, best Halloween character, and most original pumpkins. The Decorative Pumpkin contest is a long-standing tradition that the third grade class looks forward to each year. It brings the Halloween spirit and smiles to OLPS just in time for All Hallows Eve. PARADE OF SAINTS: The annual OLPS fourth grade Parade of Saints will process into church the morning of Thursday, Oct. 27. All fourth grade students have chosen saints to research for a report. The students began reading short biographies of their Saints over the school’s intercom system during morning announcements the week of October 10. During the Parade of Saints, they will come to church dressed as their Saints. After Mass, the Saints will parade down the OLPS Pre-K/Kindergarten hall for all “little eyes” to enjoy. Family, friends and parishioners are welcome to join the celebration.

PARENT/TEACHER CONFERENCES: There will be NO school and NO 8:00 A.M. Mass this Friday, Oct. 28, due to Parent/Teacher Conferences. Your child’s teacher will be in touch to schedule an appointment.

Q: What does the decision regarding the translation of pro multis mean?

A: After having consulted with Conferences of Bishops throughout the world, Pope Benedict XVI determined that the translation of qui pro vobis et pro multis effundétur in remissiónem peccatórum, presently translated “which will be shed for you and for all so that sins may be given,” will be changed in the new edition of the Roman Missal to “which will be poured out for you and for many for the forgiveness of sins.”

OLPS PARISH SUPPERS are held every Wednesday from 5:00 to 6:30 P.M. in Olinger Hall. The Knights of Columbus Council 8029 hosts and prepares the suppers. Meals are $4.00 per plate. Eat in or take out; you are encouraged to stay and eat in the Hall and visit with other members of our church family.
