Q: Why did the Holy Father choose to translate pro multis as “for many” and not as “for all”? What is happening to this text in other languages?

OLPS SCHOOL BULLDOG BYTES OLPS is proud to announce that “Lessons and Carols” has been chosen as one of the “12 Days of Christmas,” an annual Christmas program sponsored by the City of Alexandria. Please join us on Wednesday, Dec. 7 at 6:30 P.M. in OLPS Church for a beautiful evening of music and Sacred Scripture presented by the OLPS music ministries. The annual Community Coffee UPC label collection is this week, Dec. 5-9! Last year OLPS students and supporters raised over $2,400 through the Community Coffee program. Please help our “coffee cup” overflow with Community Coffee funds by exceeding last year’s collection numbers. Remember, it’s not just coffee UPC labels. Community Coffee also distributes sugar, creamer and tea. Labels may be turned in at the OLPS school front office.

A: The 2006 circular letter was addressed not only to the United States or to the English-speaking world, but to all Conferences of Bishops and to all language groups. For example, in Spanish, what had been translated as “por todos” will now be translated as “por muchos.” That change will be implemented when the Spanish translation of the Roman Missal is approved and published for the dioceses of the United States of America.
