DAILY MASSES DURING LENT 6:30 A.M. and 5:30 P.M., Monday through Friday 8:00 A.M. Thursday, Friday and Saturday STATIONS OF THE CROSS Thursday 1:15 P.M.; Friday 6:00 P.M. LENTEN PENANCE SERVICE Wednesday, March 28, 6:30 P.M. WWWWWWW FAST AND ABSTINENCE DURING LENT: Please be reminded that the Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat for Catholics 14 years of age and older. Good Friday is a day of abstinence from meat for Catholics 14 years and older, and a day of fast (one full meal and two smaller meals) for Catholics ages 18 through 59. These regulations are given by the Church as a minimum of Lenten penance in preparation for Easter. THE COMMUNITY SERVICES COMMISSION will sponsor a collection of Easter gifts for Catholics residing at Matthews Memorial Nursing Home, the local nursing home served by our church parish. We will have baskets placed in the front of the church during the four Sundays in March for donated items. Suggested donations include unscented lotions and soaps, toothbrushes, combs, shampoo, Kleenex, chapstick, socks, lap blankets, prayer cards, and pictures or wall decorations for rooms. ANNUAL DIOCESAN APPEAL: The waters of baptism make us part of the new covenant in Christ. But the U.S. bishops’ pastoral letter on stewardship reminds us that “there is a fundamental obligation arising from the Sacrament of Baptism… that people place their gifts, their resources – their selves – at God’s service in and through the Church.” Gifts to the 2012 Annual Diocesan Appeal serve the laity and parishes of the Diocese of Alexandria. Our parish goal this year is $83,300.00. CATHOLIC HEART WORK CAMP GARAGE SALE will be this Saturday from 6:30 A.M. until 12:00 noon in Olinger Hall. Money raised will go to support the 80 High School and Junior High youth going on a mission trip this summer. Please support this effort. Donations will be accepted all day on Friday, March 2 at Olinger Hall. Please contact Carol Hirchak at 7302336 or Renee Aldridge at 542-1966 if you have items to donate.

OLPS SCHOOL BULLDOG BYTES The Magazine Drive was once again a fun, trouble-free success! Together, we raised over $10,000. The Magazine Drive is the OLPS Home & School Association’s second largest fund-raiser – with the lease amount of effort. Enjoy your magazines and don’t forget to renew with OLPS next year! Remember, orders may be placed on-line anytime during the year from the link at www.promptsuccor.org. OLPS students will receive order credit for all on-line orders. Katherine Monceaux and her Magazine Drive committee did a wonderful job.
OLPS ‘Trek for Tech’ 5K Run Mark your calendar and get your running shoes ready for May 19 for the second annual OLPS “Trek for Tech” 5K Run. All proceeds will benefit the OLPS technology fund. Last year the event raised over $25,000 and enabled us to equip several classrooms with Promethean boards. Consequently, every classroom Pre-K through grade six now has an electronic whiteboard. For more information on how to get involved through planning or sponsorship of the race, please contact Tonya at 449-9073, ext. 210.
LENTEN COUPLE PRAYER SERIES BEGINS THIS WEEK: You and your spouse or fiancé(e) are warmly invited to join us on Friday evenings, beginning this week (March 2), from 6:15 to 7:45 P.M., for a special six week “Couple Prayer Series” (www.coupleprayer.org). Couples who not only attend church together weekly, but who also pray together daily, have a divorce rate of less than 1 divorce in every 1,000 marriages. Please contact Deacon Todd and Mary Beth Marye at 448-3617 or Dirk and Beth Erickson at 442-4875 to register. Preregistration is requested to attend and for babysitting needs.

The program includes Eucharistic Adoration, prayers, music, rosary and meditations for children especially in grades two through six. OUR SEMINARIANS: Brian Seiler, Pontifical College Josephinum, Columbus, OH; Dutch Voltz, Notre Dame Seminary, New Orleans, LA
RESPECT FOR RIGHTS OF CONSCIENCE: The U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops and many other Catholic leaders have sharply criticized the federal government’s imposed mandate that violates religious liberty. The president’s Feb. 10 compromise continues to provide a lack of protection for this liberty and must be corrected, the Bishops say. At issue is the mandate which orders insurers and self-insuring employers to provide free sterilization and contraceptives, including some abortion-inducing drugs, in their health plan. Speak out in protest of this action which forces Catholics to violate their consciences. Go to www.usccb.org/conscience to watch Timothy Cardinal Dolan’s video and then click on the “Take Action Today” link which will allow you to send an email to our U.S. representative and senators, encouraging them to vote for the “Respect for Rights of Conscience Act” which is now before Congress. BEGINNING EXPERIENCE: Hope for a new beginning for divorced, widowed, or separated people. Registration is being taken now for a weekend away toward a lifetime of change at Maryhill Renewal Center for the weekend of March 23-25. Cost is $185.00 which includes two nights’ lodging and meals. To register or for more information, call Anna at (318) 452-2678 or Rose at (504) 920-0770.
