LOCATION

In the last few years, cosmopolitan Barcelona has experienced a tremendous upsurge in visitors because of its superb endowment of culture (art, music, opera, architecture...), leisure activities, varied and healthy gastronomy, sports, shopping and a rich, lively nightlife. In short an activity for every mood, everyone and each season of the year. Its benign climate contributes decisively to the sustainable growth of the passenger cruise industry. Visitors have a wide range of options to enjoy Roman, medieval or art-nouveau Barcelona or venture on short sight-

ment entities are working hand-in-hand with us to keep up with the tremendous challenges current times demand. Moreover, our terminals fully comply with the requirements set forth by the IMO and perform periodic fire and other safety drills. In fact, our terminals have been spot-checked by the U.S. Coast Guard inspection officers, and other U.S. agencies and we have passed the test with flying colours. The Port of Barcelona is also very protective of the environment. We abide by and enforce Marpol and other international environmental regulations. We also provide ships with waste collection, garbage and sewage disposal, as well as recycling services. We do not work alone, however. In January 2000, the service company Creuers del Port de Barcelona, joined forces with the Port Authority in order to develop the best passenger terminal facilities anywhere in the Mediterranean. One of Barcelona’s strongest assets though is its people. Literally thousands of professionals are diligently at work, day and night, to supply the cruise industry with the best agents, hostesses, security personnel, tourist guides, coaches, longshoremen, etc. The city of Barcelona is co-founder and a member of the Medcruise Association and takes an active part in promoting Mediterranean ports as tourist destinations. In the last five years the Port of Barcelona has been honoured with various awards by Dream World Cruise Destinations magazine in recognition of its efforts to advance the industry at large.

seeing trips to spectacular beaches (the rugged Costa Brava), or the magnificent countryside. The traveller is sure to be spellbound by the charming historical towns and villages (Romanesque itineraries or Jewish quarters). France and Andorra are at a mere two hours drive from Barcelona! 1992 Olympic Games was the latest occasion that Barcelona and its port showed the world this unique blend of old and new (the fascination of history, art, and tradition with the efficiency of design, the comfort of modernity and simplicity of life). Ever since, the city, the Port of Barcelona and other entities have endeavoured to live up to their image by constantly improving services and infrastructures. It has been successful. The Port of Barcelona became the Mediterranean turnaround port par excellence with an all time record of 1.050.000 passengers in 2003!! Constant refurbishing of the port is a must to keep our leading position. The opening of the second mouth last June, provided easy and safe access to the World Trade Center cruise ship terminals. The lengthening of the "Adossat" pier –now underway- will certainly increase the mooring space available so as to accommodate up to 5 mega ships simultaneously. Thus, we are ready to receive the largest ships in the world. Safety and security, however, are of the utmost importance for us. All personnel in our port are highly trained to undertake all procedures and operations in a most secure and safe manner. Police authorities and other law enforce-

TERMINAL A

ADOSSAT PIER

Terminal A is, historically, the most efficient terminal of the Port of Barcelona. It is a wide warehouse converted into a passenger terminal and its distribution can be easily adapted to the different operations: embarkation, disembarkation, transit. Creuers del Port de Barcelona SA , current concessionaire for this terminal is planning to increase its surface by demolishing some of the original structure that divides the terminal in two separate areas. With this project, the surface of the terminal will be big enough as to attend the drop off of the disembarkation luggage as well as the check-in of the biggest ships in the world in turnaround operations.
