REGENERATION OF VIA BRUNETTI_ITALY Location: Milan, Italy
01
Town Planning Design
The Project was a work for Ri-Formare Milano; an initiative of the School of Architecture Urban Planning Construction Engineering AUIC at Politecnico di Milano. It intends to develop research and projects on the disadvantaged areas in the suburbs of the Metropolitain city Milan. The given of this project was to develop a plan to rehabilitate via brunetti’s neighborhood located in the industrial district of milan. Even though this neighborhood is located in the suburbs of the city, its location in between th EXPO site and Polimi Bovisa Campus gives the site a big importance. Starting from this, we decided that our site should be an extention of the Polihub; the Startup District & Incubator of Politecnico di Milano (5th in the world) whose goal is to share expertise and provide access to the network of one of the best European technical universities in order to relaunch the new entrepreneurship.
Our main goal was to lower the amount of traffic that is now oppressing this area, therefore we decided to close the entrance to the highway at the end of via Brunetti, in order to re-direct the flows. The logic for the overall circulation was to facilitate the life of the pedestrians and bike users, in a way to reduce car dependency in the area. In addition, the aim was to have a new green public space that is clearly defined by our new axis. This green area comprehend a sport facility building with some outdoor fields and is characterized by a row of trees guiding the eye of the people while moving through this space. The green has also a big importance at the western border of the project since it creates a huge barrier from the highway along the way, ameliorating the quality of the space next to it.

The Upper three maps show the study of the area in terms of accessibility and density; the site is close to Certosa Railway station and has a big empty space. The maps below show the strategic guidelines of our concept: -new node with the eastern side. - new tram line coming inside our site - a barrier from the highway at the western side. - a connection between the two sites. - new fronts. - a big green space in the center of the site.

“IN BETWEEN STONE AND AIR” - A PROMOTING CENTER OF MACAEL MARBLE IN COBDAR_ SPAIN
02
Location: Andalusia, Spain Architectural Design Spring 2016
The objective of this project was to create a center for promoting Macael marble in Cobdar, Spain. The authorities in the area wanted the world to know about the region’s importance in terms of history, landscape, and economics, and specifically in terms of its marble mining activity. Therefore they wished to build this center for sculptors, on grants from institutions, to work, live, and display their works in. The Program was to have an information area and a facility for artistic research. The former will create awareness of the importance that marble quarries have had for centuries (they
have been exploited since Roman times). The latter is to accommodate six sculptors, on grants for the purpose, who will live in, work, and display their studies having to do with the manipulation of marble.

SKI DOME IN SCALO FARINI_ ITALY Location: Milan, Italy
03
Architectural Design Fall 2016-2017
The aim of this project was to create a ski dome in Milan. As we all know, Milan has a flat land with its highest point being at 122 m above sea level and its climae being a Subtropical one. Therefore Skiing was never possible in this city at all. The scope of this project was to allow people practicing skiing all over the seasons.
In addition to the ski slope, the complex included also other functions such as hotel, resort, offices, sports complex‌ The site area of this project was critical because it was located in Scalo Farini zone, north west Milan , next to garibaldi railway station, one of the biggest in its the area.

01 | 02 | 03 | 04 | 05 | 06 | 07 Concept: The idea of a valley with a mountain was to be able to give an authentic skiing experience and one which could have the same complexity and ambiance. The ability to attract athletes to train in our center was in a way associated with this. The design as a whole is influenced taking a section of the mountain trying to replicate an actual ski slope so as to give it the same look and feel. In terms of the design/shape it is defined by Movement of the built mass from the lower scale of the city to the higher scale into more recently developed areas like porta nuova. The idea of Permeability is derived from the idea of mountain passrs which in some way help the movement of people in the hills. This reflects a generosity in design and which allows vehicles to move whithin the ambit of the site. An added advantage of our profile was that it allowed the passage of vehicles but at the same time was able to align itself with certain key axial lines whivh criss-crossed the site thereby allowing more than one avenue of connectivity.
JOANNE YAMMINE
Context Within the City: The aim of the project in context with the city was to try to bring a link between the two parts of the city which now have a slight disparity in terms of character and height. In essence we were trying to connect the 2 sides of Milan. Scalo Farini is one of the last large tracts of land in Milan which can be developed. Hence, we would also like it to be a green footprint which could influence the future growth of Milano.

HERITAGE PRESERVATION IN POST WAR SCENARIOS THE CASE OF “THE EGG_BEIRUT” Location: Beirut, Lebanon
04
Architectural Preservation Spring 2017_Thesis Work
This Project was the second part (case study) of my Master’s Thesis at Politecnico di Milano. The thesis entitled “ Heritage Preservation in Post War scenarios - The case of the Egg, Beirut” was a research work of 340 pages that addressed the topic of heritage preservation post disasters and crises. Post crises, people usually loose part of their history as a result of the damage which affects their heritage, monuments, and urban fabrics. The main dilemma in this situation is “Demolition Vs Renovation”. In the first part of the thesis we analyzed several post disaster case studies from different parts of the world going through main focuses such as psychology, Identity, culture and memory. In addition, the role of social media in such situations was strongly highlighted through the description and comparison of case studies of different periods.
Beirut City Center, also known as “the Egg”, was the case study of the thesis. It is located in Beirut, the capital of Lebanon. One of the biggest tragedies that Lebanon suffered from in the 20th century is the Civil war that lasted for 15 years from 1975 till 1990. From the first part of this thesis we came to a conclusion that guided us towards a conservation and reuse proposal regarding “the Egg”. As a first step, “the Egg” was studied in details starting from its context, its history, its design reaching the interventions it has undergone through time as well as its importance today as a monument for the Lebanese people. All these factors led to saving this complex from being demolished. The table of Contents of the thesis will give a clear idea about the work’s sequence. Afterwards, the focus will be on the Conservation Proposal we did for the case study building “the Egg” .

The idea was to create a photo that combines the two parts of the thesis so we chose to have the outline of our case study “the Egg” and to cover it with a war textures. We chose one photo representing of each of the disasters’ case studies that we used in the first part of the thesis. Such as photos from world war I, World War II, Fukushima Daiichi nucleardisaster, l’Aquila earthquake and so on. To the right, the table of contents of the thesis.

Concept: - Materiality: In the case of “the Egg, its material is considered as monumental as its structure. It is part of the Lebanese Modernist era and it is influenced by the Brutalism movement where concrete was extensively used. For this reason, the material was kept visible. The skin of the building, with its patina and historic layers, were preserved. As far as interventions are concerned, only severe decay and structural damage were fixed, leaving the rest of the structure untouched. The skin of the building, with all its previous bullet holes and war scars, were left intact. - Functionality: In the case of the Egg, the building has undergone drastic change over time; it lost its role as a space and it was affected greatly by the changes in its context. Therefore, the project requirement was to revive the building and extend its life. As far as the functionality is concerned, the project was transformed into a Cinema Museum accompanied by a Movie Production Center. The flourishing Lebanese film industry has greatly influenced this choice of function. The full capacity of the complex is 4000 people occupying the space at the same time. This capacity is split on different spaces such as exhibition halls, auditorium, roof top restaurant, movie production area and a piazza. In addition to the latter spaces, the complex consists of three basement levels of parking able to hold 150 cars.
Circulation: The place is not necessarily used all at the same time, its functions are independent of each other. This is to say that spaces are created flexibly according to the event taking place; many promenade scenarios can be anticipated within the complex. Further clarification can be found through the diagrams. Basically we have 2 access: Parking (6,5,4 basements) OR Ground floor which is at the same level of the street.
The main circulation box goes from basement 6 till Basement 2 (piazza level) Then, the other box goes from basement 2 till the Rooftop. In addition, we added a ramp linking the first floor to the auditorium and then to the terrace. This ramp is done for handicapped and is integrated into the project as a kind of PROMENADE.
The circulation box during the night will be closed to prevent people from going up or down for security reasons.

ALP & WELLNESS HOTEL MOTA_ ITALY Location: Livigno, Italy

Interior Lighting Design for Hospitaliy Spring 2018
The Project’s given was to renovate the Wellness and Spa section at “Alp & Wellness Hotel Mota” in terms of material, color and Lighting. The section included a Pool, a Treatment area, a Relax area, a Sauna and a corridor. After studying and defining the spaces we have in terms of function, users and the spirit they should have, we decided to have two ambiances in the space; cold and warm ones. Cold ambiance for the pool, the shower and the Jacuzzi and warm ambiance for the relax and treatment areas because the functions of these spaces requires coziness and calmness. One of the problems we found in the existing design is that the colors and the materials were not coherent between all the spaces and were not also suitable for our concept and the ambiance we wanted to create so we decided to make major interventions with the materials and colors. - For the cold areas we chose light grey stone for the floor and the walls and white painting for the ceiling. In addition, we chose white LED with 4000k
temperature. - As for the warm areas, we chose wood parquet for the floor, white painting for the ceiling. Some of the walls are in wood and some others are painting in white depending on the space. In addition, we chose LED luminaires with 2700k temperature. It is true that we divided the spaces as cold and warm, but we unified the effect of lights in all the spaces in order to have coherence and coordination all over the place. In addition, we have a center of attraction element (task area) for each space. Our main illumination methods are: - Wallwashers - Squared spotlights - Strip lights - Cove lighting Each space has the necessary lumens needed supplied by thee functional light in addition to some decorative elements that help to improve the quality of the space such as the floor lamps in relax and treatment areas and the recessed lamp in the reception of the treatment area.
Below are the Before & After Rendersof a chosen cold and warm area of the spa; the pool and the Relax Area.

METALLICA’S CONCERT_ NOTHING ELSE MATTERS Concert Lighting Design Spring 2018
Cue 4 4:55 --> 5:23 Instrumental Bridge (Guitar + Bass + Drums + Vocalist) 5:23 --> 5:43 Verse 3 Cue 5 5:43 --> 6:36 Outro (Guitar Solo)
The given of the project was to choose a song for a certain band or singer and to prepare a light plan suggestion (including the equipement used) for its performance at a live show concert. We chose to work on one of the songs of the heavy metal band; Metallica, and we chose one of their best known song “Nothing else Matters” that was released in 1992 and is considered as Metallica’s masterpiece and has been covered nearly 100 times. After listening carefully over and over to the song, we succeeded to find its cue list that we needed to base our lighting effect plan on: Cue 1 0:00 --> 0:29 Intro I (Acoustic Guitar solo) 0:30 --> 1:00 Intro II (Acoustic Guitar solo) Cue 2 1:00 --> 1:20 Verse 1 1:21 --> 2:22 Chorus 2:23 --> 2:43 Verse 2 2:44 --> 3:01 Chorus Cue 3 3:02 --> 3:43 Instrumental Bridge (Guitar + Bass + Drums + Vocalist) 3:44 --> 4:54 Chorus
Concept: - First of all, concerning the stadium, we placed our structre and lighting fixtures on a stage of 20*15 m considered as a big stage since the band is composed by five members and we wanted to give them the sufficient space they need for their performance. - Secondly, regarding the structure, we used two linear trusses structure L-1 and L-2 and we placed at the back of the stage three boxes structures L-3, L-4, and L-5. - Lastly, about the luminaires, we created three different effects; for the guitar solo, for the instrumental bridges, and for the singing parts. However, the mixing of colors is changing constantly iduring the song using only red, white and blue light beams and smoke effect in the background.

Fall 2018 - 2019_Thesis Work
The exercise was to elaborate a lighting design project for the complex of Piazza del Nettuno in Bologna. The area of intervention included the Nettuno Monumentel complex (Statue on a fountain base), the nettuno pedestrain square, the Palazzo di Re Enzo and the Palazzo d’Accursio. The scope was to create a convivial lighting atmosphere to this touristic hub during day and night hours. It was also requested to provide RGB solution for some events during the year such as World Diabetes Day, World Autism Awarness... The concept was to use accent light and close offset floodlight to emphasize the architectural details that char-
acterize the two palaces and the fountain complex. The intention I had beside emphasizing the details of the buildings was to respect the Lighiting normatives of the Region on the task areas defined. Following these normatives was very important to me because it helped me to reduce the existing lighting problems of the site to the minimum; it helped me to reduce the glare and to protect the material (brick) from the deterioration that was supposed to happen due to the excess of light that the bricks were exposed to. In addition, i was able to provide enough lighting for pedestrians and bike and to assure a safe environment to gather in during the nights.
Above and Below are the final renders of the lighting project during normal days. To the left are the RGB solution renders for events.
