'How to become a man'

Page 1

When creating each piece, a lot of thought goes into each scene in hopes that I can work out a setting that can evoke as much emotion from the reader. I work out plenty of drafts before I find a stance that I like. Each image is intended to be looked at for a while, and it's easy to miss out little details when going through too fast.

Including colour felt necessary. No disrespect to monochromatic pieces, but colour brings life an resemblance to the piece. Which I felt necessary. (These tests did not looked some how ‘professional’ to be part of animation/ illustration genre) It happened to create this piece first on a piece of paper but probably because something had an interest

!

Turned out to be a possible final image. The Idea here in this piece is to show the positive energy which the little boy has after all he is been throw. Still not learning entirely somethings, such as be selective in what you need. Because in life we can count with our fingers what really is important for life.(deep meaningsss)

Had to change the look of the grass, because it doesn't really connect.

In this frame shows what its like at home. Feels like it needs something else to show he is disorganised and spoiled. maybe adding more mess to the layout an such. But it also shows that the little scout is nice an as is friend dog giggling at him.

Here are a couple of moment/actions to show his struggle with life. Little an not very strong he can't really carry is bag. however he also hasn't learning to chose whats important to take with him. whats essential.

In this frame it shows the little scout being tormented by his superior to wake up. Showing the state of the camp in a total disorder. Being new and away from home we still see that he as a lot to go through.

In this moment the little scout is embracing another attitude. Life is tuff and you gonna fight for it. but of course he never would arm the animals but he is put to the challenge. Also we see it isn't usual for him but he is adapting fast.

Something about this line work makes me enjoy the picture in its own. But not sure if it would be professional enough

Here the little scout is trying to light a fire place for his first time. Struggling but not entirely out of context, because kids these days watch a lot of TV an may learn a lot. The problem is always to put it in practise. I am happy with the

composition of this picture, although the way its painted makes me feel saturated an not feeling the charm this story could come into.

!

This one started out to be a pattern, but then it got carried away and became another story moment

Where he opens the tent to see whats out there in the dark that is making such noise. This image is more about facing whats unknown. Again telling you to be brave in life.

!

Here are just some sketches inspired on my chef when I was in the scouts back in the day. which then took me to is younger pictures. And found out a good reference for the design of the boy

(possible mom and dad. but left it aside)

Simply thinking about another story moment and specially trying to incorporate some negative space in the picture.

! !

Side Note: I am happy with the pieces produced to had on my portfolio as an illustrator/animator. Although I feel I didn't do justice for the story and knowledge I wanted to share. I struggled with keeping many new things in mind such as telling the story in a book format, or keeping the style consistent viewing this body of work as one. And that is what I want to tackle down so I can produce a physical copy of a book. Because its rather more rewarding.
