IMCE The Mexican Cultural and Educational Institute of Chicago –IMCE- is a not-for-profit organization created to enhance relations between Mexico and the communities of Mexican origin living in the Midwest of the United States, as well as to promote the knowledge and appreciation of the Mexican culture. To fulfill this mission, the institute carries out various promotional programs in the fields of arts, education and services to the community.

The Mexican Cultural and Educational Institute of Chicago Educational Programs *Achieving Higher Education IMCE’s project related to education and culture is, without a doubt, a direct contribution to the betterment of the quality of life to those migrant communities of Mexico who resides in Chicago with the cooperation of international entities. More than one million Mexicans and Mexican Americans who live in this country have the necessity and desire to achieve their educational goals, may it be completing elementary school or achieving their bachelors degree. IMCE’s educational program needs your support to evolve and develop its educational programs within our community.
*Adult Education This program is achieved with the assistance of INEA and the Secretary of Public Education of Mexico. In Chicago, IMCE has has been working by training tutors and certifying the academic studies of the immigrants to the standards of Mexico’s educational regulations. This program guided those students to achieve their elementary diploma and to overcome illiteracy.

The Mexican Cultural and Educational Institute of Chicago Educational Programs *Text Book These books are given at no expense to children. In collaboration with CONALITEG (National Commission of Free Text Books) in Mexico. This is an excellent opportunity for the children of Mexican descent to learn their culture and value their traditions.
*Exchange Program Several universities of Mexico are interested in working with IMCE to promote these programs among American students of Mexican descent and other cultures as well. Exchange programs of academic professors and teachers: This successful program between Mexico and the United States allows the exchange of teachers who work all year with Mexican American children. The educational system is interested in having professionals from Mexico. IMCE helps as a contact for both countries. The program is part of the Institute for Mexicans living abroad.

*Higher Education Program Benito Juarez Scholarship IMCE will continue to work on obtaining funds for the scholarship programs to be distributed to students of Mexican descent who attend higher educational programs and institutions. IMCE realizes the needs and the urgency for higher education and wishes to continue this program. The prestigious Instituto Tecnologico y de Estudios Superiores de Monterrey (ITESM, Monterrey Mexico) is collaborating with us in promoting its educational curriculum and programs among the Mexicans abroad.
*Strengthening Our Roots In collaboration with local schools and community organizations that have a 50 percent or more population of Mexican students, civic events take place in these institutions celebrating historic events such as: Mexican Independence Day, 5 de Mayo, November 20 (Mexican Revolution Anniversary), and others. Through this program IMCE promotes the values of the Mexican culture as wells as their heroes and contributors who have made a difference within the world of science, art and culture.

The exhibit The Power of Humanity was one of the most concurred and appreciated events at our gallery. Renowned artists from the most important periods of the Mexican art were part of this great collection that traveled around the world. Original creations of renowned artists such Diego Rivera, Orozco, Alfaro Siqueiros and Rufino Tamayo were also exhibited at our gallery.
A view of the Mexican Independence Day Parade. IMCE participated by showing a replica of the original "Campana de Dolores" (Dolores Bell) used by the most important figure of the movement, Miguel Hidalgo, the village priest who called for the uprising of Mexicans against the Spanish Crown.
Columbia College and IMCE signed an agreement to implement the Mexican Studies Program. IMCE was contributing with material, professsors and scholarships for the people interested in learning about Mexico.
Día de Muertos (Day of the Dead) is a very popular Mexican festivity. Arte de México Gallery prepares to celebrate this special ocassion.

Chicagoan artist Carlos Cortez was awarded The Ohtli for his longstanding contribution to the local Mexican art and culture.
The Arte de MĂŠxico Gallery is located in the world renown River North Gallery district in Chicago. The gallery offers an elegant, comfortable and prominent space for art lovers to enjoy exhibits and other special events.
Carlos Monsivais, renowned Mexican writer, was invited by IMCE to give a lecture at the Art Institute of Chicago. IMCE worked with several associations and universities to bring -among others- the Nobel laureate Octavio Paz and Carlos Fuentes, two of the important names in Mexican Literature.

Strengthening our Roots is an IMCE project that encourages people to know and understand important Mexican historic events. Mr. Zavala, a Mexican history expert, explains the origins of the Independent movement to a group of parents from Saint Procopius Grammar School in Chicago's Pilsen neighborhood.
Semanas Culturales or Cultural Weeks are a good example of working closely with the hometown associations in the fields of art, education and culture. Chicago is known to shelter the various groups of Mexicans abroad from a great number of Mexican states.

The Ohtli is a prestigious annual award given to outstanding Mexican individuals. Joan Sebastian, a popular composer, receives it from the Hon. Jose Bremmer, the Mexican Ambassador to the United States, and the Hon. Carlos Sada Solana, Consul General of Mexico in Chicago. IMCE organized and hosted the event.
