PROFILES

UCP of Greater Birmingham 2015 Goals:

•To provide the right foundation for a life without limits through early intervention and early learning programs •To provide opportunities for employment to adults with disabilities through UCP Enterprises and Employment Services •To provide physical medicine and rehabilitation and related therapies (physical, occupational, and speech) to children and adults with disabilities throughout the state of Alabama •To provide community and opportunities for greater independence through UCP’s adult day program

Who We Are:

(Opening content) United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham was founded in 1948 by individuals who cared about the quality of life for people with cerebral palsy. At that time, the Cerebral Palsy Center, or Spastic Aid of Alabama as it was known, served children of all ages in both day programs and residential services. Since that time, United Cerebral Palsy of Greater Birmingham has provided services and programs for children and adults with all disabilities addressing physical and health needs, encouraging their educational development and offering opportunities for true integration into the community. At UCP, we envision a world where disability is neither defining nor limiting. Early Intervention: Early Intervention, provided by UCP at no cost to the families served, provides hope and help for families of infants and toddlers with delays in development, diagnosed disabilities or children who are at risk for developmental delay during the first three years of life. UCP Early Intervention reached over 700 individuals last year. Early Learning: UCP’s Early Learning program, Hand in Hand, is an accredited, inclusive-style learning environment that serves children from the ages of 6 weeks to 5 years. Last year, Hand in Hand made a difference in the lives of nearly 200 children and continues to provide an inclusive learning environment for children of all abilities.

Life Without Limits Clinic: The Life Without Limits Clinic, a family-centered physical medicine and rehabilitation facility, saw over 2,000 patients last year. The clinic services also include outpatient therapy, which serves Jefferson and the ten surrounding counties, as well as dental and optometry screenings in our health and wellness program. Employment Services: UCP’s Employment Services program helps people with disabilities find competitive jobs that are based on the person’s preferences and abilities and the needs of the employer. Adult Day Program: LINCPoint, UCP’s adult day program, offers a variety of services promoting independence for nearly 150 men and women with disabilities. UCP Enterprises: Gone for Good, one of the businesses established by UCP to provide employment for people with disabilities, employs over 100 adults living with physical, developmental and intellectual challenges. This successful secure document destruction business is one of the numerous ways UCP Enterprises provides opportunities to participants for independence, skill development and the chance to be employed. Learn more about how Gone for Good can help your business at www.ucpgoneforgood.com .

Events: 25rd Annual Casual Day: April 24, 2015 Casual Day is an area-wide fundraiser for UCP that promotes advocacy and awareness for people with disabilities in the Greater Birmingham area. Local employers allow their employees to purchase and wear a T-shirt from UCP, demonstrating their support of people with disabilities.

Life Without Limits Luncheon: September 3, 2015 The annual luncheon celebrates life without limits for people with disabilities and is an important source of support for UCP’s work. UCP also presents the Life Without Limits awards at the luncheon to individuals and groups from the community who have advanced UCP’s mission of benefiting children and adults with disabilities.

Driving After Dark: May 7, 2015 Driving After Dark is a night-golf event hosted by the UCP Jr. Board. The first nine holes are played in the daylight, and the last nine holes are played in the evening with glow-in-the-dark golf balls and fluorescent lights. Vino & Van Gogh: August 6, 2015 Vino & Van Gogh is a wine and art event hosted by the UCP Jr. Board. The event features a silent auction, wine tastings, live music and artwork displays from local artists.

Mission Statement:
