DOG DAYCARE AND BOARDING
Jimmy and Sue Johnson are the owners of Dog Days of Birmingham, a full service dog care facility. They offer daycare, boarding, grooming, training and a retail store. Dogs attending daycare are assigned a regular classroom with their own human to play with and who takes care of them. Most of the regulars have best dog buddies that they hang out on the playground with! One of the most unique features of Dog Days is that the owners live on site in their own special loft. If they have to go out of town a staff member is paid to sleep at the facility. The boarding dogs are never alone overnight. Brad Strickland is Director of Training and has been training dogs for over 15 years and the Head Groomer is Melissa Norman who has over 5 years of grooming experience. For the Johnsons, Dog Days is a venture of love for dogs and a way of life. Work close to Theresa's heart is A21, an organization committed to abolishing human trafficking in the 21st Century. A21 works to stop individuals from becoming victims of human trafficking by providing awareness, education to the next generation and interrupting the demand. After carefully working alongside top influencers inside the organization, and traveling to Greece, where their headquarters are based, Bruno committed to continued support of this life-saving charity. Along with speaking engagements; Theresa has created a jewelry collection whose proceeds go to fighting these injustices through legislation. The bracelets sell for around $50, and 100% of the proceeds will go toward helping the women victimized by the trafficking. Interventional procedures are performed in state-of-the-art fluoroscopy suites equipped with full monitoring, ultrasound guidance technology, and digital-subtraction capability. Bob Sykes Bar B Q is a family-owned local tradition since 1957 serving pit barbecue to generations of customers. The late Bob and Maxine Sykes founded the restaurant and today their son Van Sykes runs the family business with the help of his nephew, Jason Jewell. Van says “Barbecue is in my blood and I literally grew up working and serving in the restaurant.” Bob Sykes fires up the the hickory coals everyday at 3am to cook the fresh pork shoulders over a natural fire. Traditional pit cooked barbecue has a unique flavor and literally goes from the pit to the plate. Bob Sykes has received numerous awards with local and national recognition over the years for for its bbq, sauce, sides, and homemade desserts. Van’s plans for the future is to continue the family tradition entrusted to him by his parents. The 60th Anniversary will be celebrated at the 8th Annual Bob Sykes BBQ & Blues Festival set for May 20th. The event draws thousands of bbq and blues music lovers.
