DR. EMILY BELL CASEY, DR. CHERIE B. MINER, DR. KATHLEEN E. MCKEON Emily Bell Casey, MD, Cherie B. Miner, MD and Kathleen E. McKeon, MD, are all members of Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center's team of physicians. Andrews Sports Medicine & Orthopaedic Center is world renowned for its innovation and excellence in injury prevention, treatment, and patient care. Dr. Emily Bell Casey, a non-surgical orthopaedic & sports medicine physician, treats all types of orthopaedic medical issues, including sports-related and non-sports-related injuries and osteoarthritis in joints. Dr. Casey graduated from the University of Alabama, and received her medical degree from the University of South Alabama. She completed her internship at the University of Tennessee in Memphis and her internal medicine residency at Baptist Health Center in Birmingham. She joined the Andrews team after completing her fellowship training with American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham. A former dancer and cheerleader, Dr. Casey has a special interest in treating gymnastic and dance injuries, as well as musculoskeletal injuries from sprains and fractures. Dr. Cherie B. Miner, a non-surgical orthopaedic & sports medicine physician, works closely with orthopaedic surgeons, physical
therapists, athletic trainers, nutritionists and coaches to provide comprehensive, non-surgical treatment to patients of all ages. Dr. Miner earned her medical doctorate from the University of Massachusetts Medical School and completed her residency in Pediatrics at Pennsylvania State University Hospital. From there she was chosen as one of a select few to receive her fellowship training under Dr. James Andrews at the American Sports Medicine Institute in Birmingham. Dr. Miner has more than two decades experience specializing in the treatment of fractures, dislocations, muscle, tendon and ligament injuries, as well as pain related to arthritis. Dr. Kathleen E. McKeon is an orthopaedic surgeon, specializing in hand and wrist surgery, including sports injuries, fracture care, nerve surgery, joint reconstruction and microsurgery. Dr. McKeon graduated from Yale University where she was a four-year varsity letterman in springboard and platform diving. She earned her medical degree from Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, finishing with Alpha Omega Alpha honors for academic achievement. She completed a residency in orthopaedic survey at Washington University in St. Louis and a fellowship in hand surgery at Vanderbilt University.

Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a sleep disorder affecting 1 in 5 people that results in an obstruction of the oxygen intake into the lungs, disrupting breathing patterns and sleep. Despite the prevalence, this condition is undiagnosed in 80-90% of affected people. It is correlated to high blood pressure, increased risk for strokes, heart issues such as atrial fibrillation and heart attacks, and is commonly seen in obese patients and many diabetics. Simple screenings can identify your risks - for example, being a male over 50 years old who snores, or is on blood pressure medicine. If you have conditions listed above, snore, or are tired of being tired- asked your doctor or dentist about OSA. Continued positive airway pressure ( CPAP) machines are common treatments, but for many patients with a mild to moderate diagnosis- dental appliances can be used with a much higher compliance rate. DR. MONICA HUNTER Dr. Hunter is a board-certified cardiologist with subspecialties in interventional cardiology and peripheral vascular medicine. She has a passion for education as the key to prevention and effective management of coronary and peripheral artery disease. While communicating with patients to explain the disease process, the treatment plan, and the importance of screening, she places high priority on active listening. This helps ensure patients take an active role in their own care. Equally important is physician education. Dr. Hunter has been privileged to teach 650 physicians from 45 states during “hands-on” endovascular courses in the latest technologies in the treatment of peripheral vascular disease. She has also served as a clinical investigator on more than 175 clinical research trials in the treatment of coronary artery disease and peripheral vascular disease. Dr. Hunter also realizes the importance of the education of women with cardiovascular diseases. She is active in the American Heart Association, Go Red for Women. Go Red for Women encourages awareness of the issues that women face with cardiovascular disease and action to save more lives. Dr. Hunter completed her medial training at the University of Louisville School of Medicine, the University of Cincinnati in Internal Medicine and Cardiovascular Disease, and the University of Kentucky in coronary and peripheral intervention. Dr. Hunter is a fellow of the American College of Cardiology and the Society of Coronary Angiography and Intervention. She is a member of Southview Cardiovascular Associates and sees patients at St Vincent’s Birmingham and St Vincent’s 119.

JENNIFER MICHELSON, MD Jennifer Michelson, M.D. is an ophthalmologist and certified refractive surgeon trained to diagnose, monitor and treat, whether medically or surgically, ocular and visual problems. Whoever said find a job you love and you will never work another day in your life must have known Dr. Priscila Denny, orthodontist and owner of Oak Mountain Orthodontics. If anyone ever loved a job, Dr. Denny loves hers, and work is the last word she uses to describe it. For her, it is mostly about relationships and helping others. When we can help people feel confident about their smile that is really big, she said. Dr. Priscila Denny cites the example of a 13-year-old patient who barely spoke when she first came to the clinic. Whenever the girl did speak she put her hand over her mouth to hide it. After six months of treatment she had stopped covering her mouth and her whole face would light up when she smiled. By the end of the treatment she had undergone a huge change. “ Something like that is very gratifying.”, said Dr. Denny. While she finds special cases such as this especially rewarding, she says, “ every time a parent entrusts their child’s care to me that means a lot”. Dr. Denny says she has been blessed to have had this practice for all these years, to win a variety of awards, and even serve at U.A.B. is the time when they become more aware of how their teeth look”, she said, “ and improving their smile helps them not to be so intimidated by the changes teens are going through”. A Brazilian by birth, Priscila Denny comes from a family of dentists including several orthodontists. In fact, her mother and her aunts are orthodontists, serving as the best role models Denny could have ever wished for. “If I had stayed in Brazil, it would have been easier” she said. “ my family is known for dentistry there, and everything would have been laid out for me to practice with my mother after I finished school there”. Instead, Dr. Priscila Denny met her future husband, local attorney Gregory Denny, during a visit to Birmingham in 1994, and within a year she had married, moved to Alabama and enrolled at UAB. After completing her studies, Dr Priscila Denny established Oak Mountain Orthodontics.
