land acknowledgement We the students, planners, and designers of OPEN Group recognize that the land that we now call Kitchener has been the site of human activity for over 10,000 years and is a part of the traditional territory of the Neutral, Anishinaabeg, and Haudenosaunee peoples. The site is situated on the Haldimand Tract, the land promised to the Six Nations that includes 10 kilometers on each side of the Grand River.
It is the responsibility of all peoples to share in the stewardship and care of the land and its resources; a responsibility that falls especially on the shoulders of the planners and designers of a settler people. We are mindful of broken treaties and the need to work for reconciliation and are grateful for the opportunity to live and to work on this land.
