This project involved creating a book review which had to also include a poster. The book that I had to work from was ‘Media Control: The Spectacular Achievements of Propaganda’. I chose to select the most important phrases or points of the book and put them together to form an old school, American style propaganda poster. The final finish for these posters was to print it on a high quality, gloss stock and then to be mounted on thick board in order to reflect the important and authority behind the design and meaning of the poster.

This piece of work was designed as a way of raising awareness to the growing number of young men being found dead in water after going missing on a night out. The poster is designed to shock and make people think about the consequences of drinking so much you lose all your inhibitions. Working alongside both charity and the police I came up with the design of showing a hand to represent drowning and to position this inside of a glass of alcohol. Using my own photography and digital manipulation I feel the final outcome has been successful.

Digital Art is something that has always interested me and is something which I intend to improve on as I work within the field of Graphic Design. This piece is entitled Soulless Corpse and is intended to showcase the emptiness and anger that some people feel in regards to death. Using my own photography and digital brushes I feel I have captured this in a single image. More digital artwork can be found on my website.

This book/magazine was designed as part of my major project in my second year studying Graphic Design. The aim of this project was to pick a subject and go into as much detail as you could. With my subject being technology I decided due to the vast amount of content available that it would best be designed as a special editiion annual. The reasoning for an annual is that in the same way sales in vinyls have boosted due to online downloads, higher quality annuals may increase in sales with more people viewing magazines online. All of the content, except for the few pages which have been mentioned, was written myself. Sourcing of quality imagery played a big role in this piece of work but for each photograph I have applied my own take on them, whether that be through editing or typographic approach. Due to the format of this piece of work it allowed for me to experiment fully with an array of typographic styles. With type as a focus, it has allowed me to appreciate the work that goes into a piece of editorial design.

A series of photos taken with a 35mm Film Camera around Bristol. Each photo was taken with the starting point of a single word of phrase. Although photography is not at the centre of my skill set it still plays a fundamental part in a lot of my work. Using a film camera was very demanding as I was forced to restrict myself to how many photos I could take.

Artwork designed for a Bristol/Plymouth based musician experimenting within the fields of electronica, dnb and dubstep. The concept of the work was a collaboration with myself and the artist himself with the influence coming from computer gaming. This was a fun project to work and is currently on going to be finished for the release of his first EP.

This was my first attempt at an infographic, something I had hoped to do more of as infographics have always been something I have been interested in. The topic of choice for this infographic was based on the game Call of Duty. Rather than looking at general stats which can be found easily on the internet I decided to look at my own personal growth in the game. By doing this I felt it gave a more realistic view of what playing the game is actually like and how the progression of gameplay affects your abilities. I am hoping to produce more infographics for later projects.

This project involved just using type to create a response to a location in Bristol in which I spent five hours. The location was fairly industrial as it was situated next to a construction site, a recycling firm and other laboured crafts. I chose to reflect my posters using this style as is seen in these posters. The paper stock was a very important choice as I wanted to reflect the feel of the area. The stock used was news print to reflect the paper recycling firm and another thick recycled card stock.

For the larger design which is in the style of a newspaper front page. I have included everything that I had recorded in my time spent in the location and ordered it so that it was able to be seen as a newspaper documentation. This has been a fairly challenging project as I am used to working with more image based outputs, but I feel it has allowed me to develop my skills and been able to focus on typography more closely than I usually would.

This project involved looking at the ways in which chaos and order can sometimes work together and in other cases fight against each otheer. I intended to represent the subject matter in the design and layout of the newspaper spread. With a structured yet varied method to placement of type and in the editing of images I feel I have captured this theme.

ACTING LIKE ANIMALS

Acting Like Animals came from the project ‘I read the news today’ in which we were asked to document news stories in a chronological order. I have certainly challenged my design abilities and feel I have created a polished, high quality finish. The title came from the way that I percieved the majority of the news storis included. A lot of them appeared to show people simply acting like animals, whether that be through violence or other methods.
