introduction The Family Learning Festival takes place during the school half term from 24 to 29 October 2016. It is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together and take part in free, fun and informal learning activities in locations all over Hackney. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Wonderful World’. Come and join us with your family and be inspired by the world of learning that you discover! Our range of arts and crafts activities include recycled crafts, pottery, candle making and bag printing. You can also learn to keep fit in our variety of health and wellbeing sessions. There is sure to be something new for you to try with your family! The festival programme has been co-ordinated by Adult Learning Services at Hackney Learning Trust, Hackney Children’s Centres and Hackney Libraries in association with local heritage centres and community organisations. family learning festival 2016

To book your free place on a workshop, please visit www.learningtrust.co.uk/ familylearningfestival If you do not have access to a computer at home or in the community, or if you experience problems with the online booking system, you can call us for support on 020 8820 7047. To find out more about Family Learning in Hackney, contact 020 8820 7119. This booklet gives you an overview of activities at venues across Hackney. Please note, that even though we have made every effort to ensure that the information in this booklet is accurate, it is possible that some activities 3

may be cancelled or moved at the last minute. If we are informed of a change to a workshop by a venue or tutor, our online enrolment system will be updated with a note at the top of the page describing the nature of the change. To avoid confusion or disappointment, please make sure you double check this before you proceed with your booking. Please note that all the activities are designed for adults and children to work together and children must be accompanied by an adult who is also taking part in the activity. Adults cannot attend the sessions on their own. Family Learning Festival workshops are not run on a drop-in basis. Even if you have booked, if you arrive more than 10 minutes late, you may lose your place to another family. All workshop and crèche spaces are FREE! 4

A NOTE FROM OUR FAMILY LEARNING MANAGER, BARRI DISU Welcome to the Family Learning Festival 2016! This annual event is designed to create opportunities for families to spend quality time together, have fun, do something different and learn new skills. This year we have listened to feedback from our Hackney families and ensured that the festival coincides with the October half term so that all families can be involved. The sessions aim to inspire, encourage creative discovery and spark fresh activities to try at home with family and friends. I would like to take this opportunity to thank all children’s centres, schools, community providers and teachers for their support and involvement. We look forward to seeing our Hackney families at this year’s events!
