introduction The Family Learning Festival takes place during the school half term from 24 to 29 October 2016. It is a fantastic opportunity for families to come together and take part in free, fun and informal learning activities in locations all over Hackney. The theme for this year’s festival is ‘Wonderful World’. Come and join us with your family and be inspired by the world of learning that you discover! Our range of arts and crafts activities include recycled crafts, pottery, candle making and bag printing. You can also learn to keep fit in our variety of health and wellbeing sessions. There is sure to be something new for you to try with your family! The festival programme has been co-ordinated by Adult Learning Services at Hackney Learning Trust, Hackney Children’s Centres and Hackney Libraries in association with local heritage centres and community organisations. family learning festival 2016

This annual event is designed to create opportunities for families to spend quality time together, have fun, do something different and learn new skills. This year we have listened to feedback from our Hackney families and ensured that the festival coincides with the October half term so that all families can be involved. The sessions aim to inspire, encourage creative discovery and spark fresh activities to try at home with family and friends. Bring It and Fix It 10:30 – 12:30PM Learn how to upcycle your clothes and breathe some new life into them instead of throwing them away, in this resourceful workshop run by Creative Lifestyles CIC. For example, you could take a pair of children’s trousers or jeans which are now too small, cut them into a pair of summer shorts and use other bits of haberdashery fabric or lace and buttons to lift their look. Forest School Taster 9:30AM – 12NOON Come and embrace outdoor learning at Hackney’s new Forest School based at Clapton Park Children’s Centre. Activities include tree climbing, mud painting, bug hunting, making campfires and den building. You will also gain some understanding of the natural flora and fauna that lives on the Hackney Marshes, and parents can get tips on how to take advantage of Hackney’s amazing outdoor spaces to keep their children active. Waterproofs will be provided for the children, weather-appropriate clothing and shoes and long sleeve tops and trousers are essential to participate.
